+1 on Herman Li and Sam Totman from DragonForce! Super-fast Nintendo TV game/ 80's arcade game music Power Metal! Not my favourite music, but still very impressive from a technical point of view and enjoyable in short stretches.

Herman Li is said to be, note for note, one of the fastest guitarists in the world. Don't know if that's true or not, but he really does play uber-fast!

I think Children of Bodom is overally a better band (the drummer is very, very good for one) than Dragonforce though, so I prefer them. I'm not really a total metal head, but I do still listen to metal so I suppose I can comment.

Children of Bodom used to be my favorite band but their latets album was a dissapointment.Non of the magic of the old stuff.

Probaply the best young guitarist in metal now is Mat heafy,Ascendancy is one of my favorite albums of all time.The band went a little bit gay with all the clean vocals on the Crusade their new album

Well this happens to most bands, there first 2 albums is kick ass, and then go commercial and make money after that, and not long they break up and form a new band to start over again.
I loved Children of Bodom between the period of 1997 - 2000.

Well if we're going to go as far back as Metallica, one can't ignore James Iha of Smashing Pumpkins fame. But then again many good guitarists were doing the rounds at the time (late 80's, early 90's) - think Slash here...

And here's where i'm going to fall on my sword - Punk guitarists on a whole are less... what's the word I'm looking for... technical?

Punk is best and most effective when it's a simple 3 or 4 chord, power chord riff. Combine it with, as my punk-hating work colleague would say, angry 14 year old drummer on speed and you have a recipe for the masses.

Spykey im not gonna fight you on this I have to agree that punk is far less technical but I gotta give it to him in terms of consistency. Dude's been at it for over 20 years. I dont think he just straps 5ths together.

Please,please,please add some more names to the the list, we can get the younger musicians involved with this forum.

I thought this was a list for younger people, lets say angry 14 year old drummers for instance, so I think offspring are worth a listen.

And if its a list for just metal then you can throw out about a third of my list.

Really wanted to play Punk-o-matic but it's taking too long to load. ☹

Must definitely, I really do enjoy his pieces. The solo on Kids Aren't Alright has to be one of my favourites.

Kids arent all rite is and awesome song the into sounds great. This is from the Americana album and i think this album was the best that was ever released. yea yea im one of offspring's biggest fans ?. There concert was the best i ever been to. Another good power intro is Pretty fly for a white guy. i love that melody and so easy to play.

Big fan too! Their concert was the best i've ever attended. While they may not have had the best energy on stage (that said, it wasn't bad for a bunch of 'older' punks) their recreation of the music was almost flawless.
The intro to Kids is one of my 'warm ups'...
