All the above are common as muck. Especially the lawn. Yes, it's my lawn, but if you don't have a lush lawn in Jo'burg this summer then grass is allergic to you.

On a serious note, are you having buyers remorse, did the instrument not meet your expectations ?

I ask because somewhere in the back of my mind I want one but also have my (unqualified) doubts which is why I have not made the commitment

The main issue is that I want a Lowden. I have allowed myself the options of either winning the lottery or selling off other guitars to make a worthwhile contribution to the "Lowden fund".

I have played on Mervins at his workshop and at the Ale house http://www.irishpub.co.za/index.html pub, so I have a bit of the "feel" for the Talker....

It is diffrent (I think) when you are in the quite of your own space. Thanks for the offer anyway, but I will ponder a while longer.....

I really want a talker but a nylon string for classical pieces. @Bob The 2 models models before this one looked a little different.

I think that strictly speaking only the far right example is a Smoothtalker. Mine is not far removed from that. Mervyn changed the bridge a while back and the body know has four layers or hoops instead of two.

And you get choices but not to that extent.

The nylon string at the top of the page is the older "two layer" (my term) body.

The slot-head steel string is the "four layer" body he makes now.

I doubt it has any impact on the tone because the sides are so thick they cannot possibly add any resonance, overtones etc.

Wow I think that baritone could be awesome to play with. Unique sound and look.

The truth is that I am looking for a decent flamenco guitar and that is bloody hard to find. It can't sound mellow like the Smoothtalker which I want to us for classical pieces. It has to sound raspy with major attack.

Hugh's Fine Guitars have a flamenco guitar at present.

those wooden peg tuners are the biz for flamenco and just drips with "original " flamenco style...steve newman uses one with wooden peg tuners and ..lets face it he's the kinda nylon player that he would only play what works well.... but i guess the tuning of a wooden peg guitar is an art in itself....... but yeah if you want true flamenco .......
