So I didn't think much of Chickenfoot until yesterday. I only heard about 3 of their songs and I found the solos to be too inaccessible. I mean I *love* Joe's guitaring but in a rock band, there's just only so much of his style that works all of the time. The rest of the time it needs to be more rock n roll, less weird sounds with the whammy, etc ?
So I was listening to the full album yesterday and found that the solos in "My Kinda Girl", "Oh Yeah" & "Future in the Past" have very accessible solos. Sometimes bordering on Slash style wah-awesomeness, othertimes just classic Joe rock 'n roll, and other times, just plain ol' rock 'n roll.
Definitely digging it now. Maybe it's just one of those albums that grows on you? Some of my favourite albums have been like that because they present a new sound or a new mix of common sounds that challenge my mind too much in the beginning ?
Still not a fan of all the lyrics tho. Some very strange stuff that seems to have been rushed. Your thoughts?

Oh and I forgot to say that I love the ballad, "Learning to Fall". I just think it's missing a big, fat, screaming solo. ?

First time through I read Chicken Shack ??? A whole other kettle of fish. I've been meaning to take a listen but the thought of Sammy Hagar makes me queasy.

LOL ?
Well if you do decide to take a listen, listen to the whole album. When I'm not sure about an album, I put JUST that album on repeat. After about the 3rd listen, I know what I like and don't like about it.
The first listen for this album didn't do TOO much for me but by the 3rd listen, I got very much into it. I suppose the key is to listen to it for what it is. Don't expect Joe Satriani, don't expect Van Halen, just take a listen, and see if you like it for what it is.
It's the same sort of reaction I had to Velvet Revolver. I first listened expecting Guns n Roses and got bored and decided I didn't like 'em. Then I had a good listen to the full album and now I LOVE 'em.
