Hi All,

I'm looking for someone who can do a quality refret that isn't going to charge me and arm and a leg. I was quoted 2k for my M600 and that's just ridiculous IMO. My frets arn't really dented or worn, but it seems over time they've slowly started lifting and it causes a really annoying fret buzz; I'm not sure what causes this. Is there maybe an alternative to a refret, or is this my only option?

R2K isn't bad - it's a bound fretboard, which is very labour intensive to refret.

However if your frets are lifting at the edges it's possible to squirt some superglue in with a syringe so that it runs into the fret slot, then clamp the fret down with a caul until it sets. You can do a whole bunch in one go using a radiused sanding block as a caul. If necessary follow up with a fret dress.

Did you just ask the luthier about getting a refret or did you say what the problem was and ask for a solution? If the latter, there might be a reason that a refret was suggested over a simple glue job.

That's about right and it is worth it if it needs one... Look after the guitar and wipe down the strings after playing and it should last a long long long time.

He said that overtime the wood could change from the climate etc and that could be the cause. I think paying 2k for that particular guitar to be refreted is a bit much though. I'd rather spend that money on equipment and do it myself ?

Yeah, there are no worries on that side of things, I'm pretty anal about my guitars ?

Just Had Matt at Maingard guitars do a refret on my ovation Balladeer and that was R2k.He did a brilliant job and It was well worth spending that kind of money ( sold my Laptop ) as the guitar now plays like a dream. The R2k included a setup, new strings and he cut a new nut for me as well. I was happy with the Price. R2k sounds fair. My 2 cents

My Epi Les Paul is in for a refret at the moment. Needs a new bridge and jack too. I'm also paying more than R2k for the entire job.
