alot of his songs come off as real corny to me, im like wow thats amazing how the shit did you do that, and then im like wow thats the cheesiest thing iv ever heard that sounds like an 80's porno or an elevator riff, but wow how did you do that!

I know I'm stepping back a few lines here, but that's a pretty fair description of where Gary gets frustrating to listen to. Almost every slow, sad blues number he does sounds like Parisien Walkways (right down to the picking rhythm). Lyrics often verge on the choc box lid obvious - almost paint by numbers songwriting.
And then just before you get fed up & switch it off, along comes a stunning, searing LP into Marshall tone (e.g. Cold Day In Hell or Only Fool In Town) that grabs your ears & makes you want more of the same.
