Well on the topic of steel wooling the back of necks.
My RG unfortunately has a gloss finish neck which I'd like to get rid of, I was wondering is there a more permanent way to remove the gloss or should I just steel wool once in a while? Otherwise I'd also like to know if anyone knows where to get 0000 grade steel wool. I am aware of a hardware shop in Cape Town but I don't know where to find it or how much a reel will cost so I'd appreciate some directions etc...
Also if there is a permanent way to remove the gloss coating on the back of my neck how will it affect the strength of the neck itself? This is an RG we're talking about here so I realise that the neck will probably be fine but it is very thin so some reassurance here would be appreciated.

Yeah, just steel wool it occasionally - the finish is thick enough to take doing it hundreds of times. Before you damage the neck, probably thousands of times before you could do damage. It takes quite a while to gloss up again anyway.
Hardware Centre in Bree Street, Cape Town should have the good steel wool - what they don't have for woodworking, you probably don't want.
