what DELAY pedal would you buy?

Thanks Matt D. yeh somtimes its great having alot of flexibility but if im honest i mostly want to just plug n play (and tap the tempo in) Of course budget is always a concern because that way you can buy MORE pedals LOL ?thanks

I really enjoy my '87 Japanese DD-3, but it is limiting to use live.

IMHO the Line 6 green box is the best all-rounder available, but it is a modelling unit, so it works best at making *sound like* a Memory Man or an Echoplex.

T-Rex Replica is absolutely gorgeous and it has a switch for calculating dotted 8th delays from tapped straight 4's, and a switch for BROWN which gives a beautiful tape-decay with a bit of phase-shift and grit to the repeats. This would be my choice if I had a spare R6000 lying around.

Just FYI - The Nova uses a 12V supply and does take up almost 2 pedal slots. My pedalboard has it's own power and it works fine on the 12V supply from there, not sure how much mA it uses but it's not that much. The Eventide is 9VDC but uses 1200mA, so just that you know.

Max draw is 450mv, which is beyond some cheaper multi power supplies, but it comes with a PSU.

Here's an interesting site detailing what equipment guitarists use. Interesting that a number of them use Boss delay pedals, which have not been raised in this thread.

The DD3 and DD7 were raised in other responses, but one of his requirements is to have tap tempo. The only Boss delay with that function is the DD20 I think. (Although the DD7 can do tap tempo via an external footswitch)

Never ever use that as an excuse to get something "smaller".

If i want a Hummer H1 (not the new shite), and my garage is to small, i'll extend my garage.
In your case, a pedal board (Pedal Train ?) is a hell of a lot cheaper than extending a garage !

YEs i have been looking at the DD7 (i like the reverse delay alot) then just get a external switch. I have a old on/off switch that might actually work??

I have the dd20 and in my opinion sounds brilliant when you are stuck on budget! After all my pedals were stolen and insurance only paid out R5000 on R18k worth of pedals i was stuck. Picked up a dd20 from gumtree for R1700 (btw just saw another on there for R1700 aswell) and i love it... Different tempo delays, triplet, dotted 8th etc... so nice to use! Has 2 pedals for on/off and the other can be used to tap in the tempo!...4 programmable delay options, I am very satisfied! By all means not the best delay but great value for money! Better than dd7 in my opinion! Also has reverse delay etc! It's not tue bypass tho but you can fix that!

For sure, stuck on budget it was between the dd7 and dd20, R200 bucks more for the dd20 was the best option! While i waited on the insurance to pay me i borrowed a dd7 from a friend, was alright and sounded okay, dd20 just way more features!

Tried it, it can also use external foot switch for tapping the tempo, just about the same as dd7, i prefer the dd7 tho! About same price and the dd7 sounds better in my opinion!

OKAY guys,

I am going to look out for either the nove delay or the eventide (prob eventide) BUT my question to those that have it/used these 2 pedals...
can you just click with your foot to switch between saved delays? like if i have a reverse delay and digital delay stored and i want to just change "patches" between them DURING a song...can these pedals do that with no external device attached?

I know they both can TAP DELAY which is the other crucial part for me.
