@ Fritz - Yeah I hear you - for years Bothners had a guy working the guitar section who would treat you like you weren't "goodenough"
I get who you're talking about, and I think you misjudge him somehow. He was one of the main reasons I got into the retail biz - When he worked at the "other" Claremont shop (also owned by Bothners), I used to go there because the guys at Bothners would ignore me, while he was always friendly and helpful and wouldn't hesitate to tell you not to buy something because it was crap. Helluva musician too, playing a mean guitar, keyboards and drums. He was the best selling salesman at Bothners for years and "retired" fairly young, having paid off his house and two cars as well as setting his wife up in her own business (a '60s paraphernalia shop). He now helps his wife in her second branch and his youngest son works at Bothners head office.
One time I was was trying to buy strings, there were 3 guys behind the counter having private conversations on cell phones
That's always been a problem, comes with having to hire musicians ? Do yourself a favour and if it ever happens again, complain to the manager - they really haul the guys over the coals for it.
