Maybe nows the time to invest in a drill press ?
I like Gearheads advice there. I don't do much metalwork, so my main criteria is that the "reach" (or throat, or whatever you call it) is deep enough so I can get a hardtail Strat or Tele in to drill the string holes without it butting up against the column. Real handy things to have around the workshop.
would you set the drill speed slow?
Me? I'm too much of a cowboy, but most presses, especially the smaller ones don't go that fast anyway. As always, experiment on scrap first and figure out what you are comfortable with.
I forgot about the switch tip!
I did too recently - that's why I remembered it now. ?
