...based on several books with the same slant.. ? Not that I've played too many but in my case it will have to be a 1.a pre-60's Fender Strat; 2. definately a '59 Les Paul (too hear for myself!) 3. a 60's Gibson super 400; 4. any Martin and Taylor acoustic; 5. a 50's Gretsch 6120...the Duane Eddy models

So I did earlier today...a '56 Goldtop in very good condition. Well, what else can I say about the guitar...has been kept for most of its life in a Lifton case. Result is that the plastic parts have not changed colour much. The fingerboard is nice dark Brazilian and the frets are smooth and polished. The Lester is strung with heavy flatwounds...the jazz type...must be on the guitar for at least 30 years. The sonic result of this was...well, very dissappointing ☹

Perhaps with a new set of strings the babe will "kick into top gear" Vic ..... so what is the owner doing with it ? besides keeping it in a case with 30 year old strings on? ?

No doubt, a new set of strings will do the job. I mean with P90's one should not use thick flatwounds...no life in that sound. It now belongs to a collector who wishes to keep it "original"....strings and all ?

That's not cool, P90's should be nice and lively. If you go again, take some strings along lol. Ok, guitars I want to play:

It's really sad to hear stuff like that. It's collector's value will forever prevent it being used for what it was built. Keeping some crap old strings on it so you can't even take it out the case once a year and plug it in.

I get the point. It's like keeping the original star wars figure in its blister pack or whatever. It's just a shame when it happens to a classic guitar.

Well I don't have a big list. I would like to play on a Gibson L4 jazzbox preferably pre 60's. Also the 335. I also want to play on a pre 60's LP with P90's, Strat and Tele. I also would like to play on a Dan Electro with the lipstick pickups. I am fond of Gretsch but I don't really know the guitars other than the few that i've seen. As for acoustics. Well I'm not that big into acoustics.
