Finally got my amp working

Sounding good Mike - but you must have serious confidence in your earthing system - barefoot on tiles? Yeeeesh!!

Ahahaha, thanks. Yes I've taken enough shocks already and I've been through my earthing countless times as I had a total of 3 imperfect grounds. Hehe thankfully 2 of them were on the input side and one was just grounded to the wrong place.

Congrats on your amp - I do however think that it should not sound as dark as it does on your other guit, Les Paul or not. Is the difference between the guitars as big when playing through (easy reference ? ) your Twin Reverb?

Oh i see Gearhead.. Yes massive massive difference. Loads more bass and lower mids especially after the recap.

Thanks mr pimp! I am guessing that's why it's a famed strat amp, it really bulks up the lower mids. Popped a 12at7 in, better taper for the drive. Sounds rocking! Clean sound is also great on the strat.

Did you pop the two extra 6L6's into your twin reverb to bring it back to full strength after the recap?

Be interesting to to know how that is running now.

Also glad the 12AT7 helped as well.

Not yet! Don't have the space to test this baby out properly - already loud enough in my playing area @ 3 - 4 hehehe Oh and I need to find them :/

Figured out the PT is pushing out too high voltage which is causing some of my issues.. 390v instead of 350v..

I assume you sorted out the squeal issues you had? What was the problem, outside of the HT being a bit high?

The ht was at 490v at a stage. Forget a bit high ?

My final diagnosis is the wire running from the volume control directly to preamp was getting interference. After that was shielded, no more issues what so ever. Just keep to try a 6v6 on here

I would say part of the reason why this particular wire needed shielding is the fact that the chassis was designed exactly opposite of the pcb, so whatever lead you have runs across everything else. Fortunately the builder had sourced various components at different suppliers... I have heard Mike say he was going to re-do the layout on turret board so it will all come right in the end.
Tip for the aspiring builder: turret board. From supplier of chassis. Do. :yup:

Ellaboration on that tip - Use a predesigned layout for both the chassis and the board or do it yourself. Now we know..
