Anyone listening to it?

I've ignored Megadeth for years but picked up the previous album (United Abominations) on a whim and surprised myself by really enjoying it. So I really looked forward to this latest one, Endgame, because Chris Broderick (ex Nevermore, Jag Panzer) is playing on it, he's an amazing guitarist so this album could only be even better.

To Mustaine's credit, this album is really heavy, fast and pretty angry sounding. But it's less melodic and innovative than the previous one. To me UA was the better of the two.

What I do want to rave about though is the production. It is super. The guitars are heavy but clear with that fluid/liquid kinda sound I love so much. (Kinda hard to describe hehe.) I saw "headcrusher" on MTV, kinda baffled that's the choice for a single, it's a straight ahead unremarkable thrash metal thing, there's a lot more interesting and accessible stuff on the album.

Of course Broderick's leads are amazing, just not sure how well they work against the fairly straight ahead Megadeth type riffing, and how many lightning fast 6-string sweeps do you actually need to stuff into 4 measures? But still, it's good.

Anyway, not a bad album at all, love listening to it more for how it sounds than the music. There are more interesting things out there, but not in the "mainstream metal" pond.

I trump your vintage street cred with "So far so good so what." That's the last one I listened to before buying these two. ? Let's see, that was released in.... holy crap 1988. Scary, very scary.
