Manfred-Klose Basically in quick walkthrough copper foil tape is used to seal the cavities inside the guitar, this improves EMI(Electro magnetic interference) and reduces the hum from a guitar. Copper foil is a very conductive material, and alluminium foil is also conductive but only 70% where copper foil is 100% conductive. So my Question is: Will Alliminium Foil also work to seal the cavaties and reduce hum?
AlanRatcliffe Yes, but there's a major drawback to aluminium - it can't be soldered. Also in large amounts, aluminium can affect the magnetics of the pickups themselves, changing the sound.
Manfred-Klose I'm a bit sceptic about it, I'm going to try it on a cheap guitar and see what it does. Dont the strats come out with a piece of allimunium under the scratch plate?
AlanRatcliffe Dont the strats come out with a piece of allimunium under the scratch plate? Yes. Most guitars do. Doesn't need soldering there and it's a small piece.
