My mate has a London Burns Vistasonic (circa 1962) . . .

After all these years, the action still sets up real slick and is a pleasure to play. The tri-sonic (Brian May used them) pups give a real wide variation in sound, and it's got the famous "Wild Dog" setting on the 3-way switch, which is like a built-in overdrive on your guitar!

....a budy of mine got hold of a Xtone,the shape is kinda,um...ja,u kinda have to get use to it,its kinda warped..but its a very comfterbil guitar,and GR8 sounding....think the compony is actualy owned by ESP? iv neva played a esp,but iv playd a ltd,the lespaul copy,the 1000 one,with the mother of pearl binding(not my cup of tee...) and it was awsum...realy...and most peopel think there only good for metal....but thats a total misperseption...

Anderson - yes please. I'll take a carve top Atom with Bigsby trem & a Hollow Cobra, thanks.

A very good & unusual maker in the mid-range price bracket (i.e. Tokai to Fender USA prices) is Duesenberg from Germany. Take a look at their stuff. Of course you can get completely quirky and go for Eastwood.

We're also leaving out G&L, and Fret King have started a well-regarded range.

I saw a Peavey T-60 in Magnet Music in 1980 and always wanted one.
I finally got one about 4 years ago.

I don't know much about Electrics, but I had a Fernandes LE-2 that played well, traded in for a Charvel model 3, got rid of that because I couldn't play the thing.

So I have never had a Fender, Gibson or Ibanez :-[

Godin. I really like mine, a Solidac. I haven't played any other Godin's, but judging by the one I have, they should be nice. They're generally well made and, I suspect, better value for money than Fenders. I'm still after the A12 twelve string...maybe this year.

I went through a severe Godin GAS phase a few years ago, very nice looking stuff. Never played one though. Their amplified nylon strings are still on the back of my wishlist somewhere.

Suhr and Vigier both interest me a lot.

What about Brian Moore Guitars - haven't seen one in ages but there was a curve-top (not arch top) SEVEN string at Andy's (I think it was Andy's) years ago that I really wish I'd grabbed. I think it was a green quilted maple finish, really beautiful.

Brian Moore is still going - great guitars and he does some of the nicest 13-pin guitars available (alongside Godin). He was doing quite well, but then tried to market directly to the public, undercutting all the shops who had stock of his guitars. So the shops stopped stocking and his distributors dropped him so he's now marketing directly in small quantities - more of a small custom shop again. http://www.iguitar.com/

I have had a Peavey T-60 since 1978, it's been modded with EMG actives and a Kahler whammy-bar (with lock-nut) thru the years; this was my work-horse for 30 + years ! It has matured in sound sooooo much and is a FANTASTIC guitar, (almost Fender neck - very slick with the additional neck-tilt feature), a body as heavy as a Ferrari gearbox, but . . . . . WOT AN AXE!!! :yup:
