Some thoughts on guitars OTHER than Fender, Gibson and Ibanez ??

We have read sooo much about Fenders and Gibson (esp the Strat and LP respectively), even Ibanez, on this forum....making some members really gatvol :-[ What about the many other quality and popular brands ? Some thoughts on these perhaps?

I love cort guitars both there accoustics and electrics ....... Alot of bang for you buck there , and very well built guitars ..... Also love my squiers , yet to have a bad experience with them , althought they made by fender they there own brand in there own right .

I had an Aria Nylon string. It was one of the finest instruments I've played, despite the peeling finish and very simple electronics it was great

Get your hands on an American-made Hamer if you can. A very sweet piece of gear indeed, an better quality construction than either F or G guitars.

Any Gretsch fans out there? Try one of the Jet models, or the Billy-Bo Jupiter Thunderbird. As quirky as only Bo Diddley could have requested, but a lovely guitar to play as well.

When you look around at what's really out there beyond the usual suspects, we're completely spoilt for choice. Make mine an Anderson or a Tyler.

I have got to see some real beauties the last week or so. Top of the list is a Lowden O35. As I said, I wish could afford to have that kind of GAS.

Today I got a good look at a Tom Anderson electric. The workmanship on that was just exquisite. ALL of it. Every detail. The knobs on the pots, the attachment of the various plates to the body, the spray job, the bindings... you name it. And it played real good too - what a great neck.

Also got a quick whack on a 1950-something Martin D18. Sounded pretty damn good, even though it looked like something the dog wouldn't eat.

I am still loving the Larrivee I got a couple of months ago. Seriously good guitars with loads of tone and very good construction.

There are so many good manufacturers out there it's scary. Many make the "big boy's" attempts look silly: D'Pergo, Lentz, Anderson, Suhr, Melancon, Tyler, Benedetto, PRS, Lollar, Callaham, Bacchus et.al. There are even some relative cheapies like Reverend to keep an eye on.

Yes Vic, all those brands aside........It's probably known that I am absolutely knocked out with the Paul Reed Smith (PRS) brand. Incredible workmanship, awesome finish, and brilliant tone.
If I should get a few grand I'd definitely INVEST in a 513 and a Modern Eagle, those are high on my "to get one day" list. However, I will leave my friend MoJo JoJoe to complete a full review on these exquisite guitars........over to you MJ......... ?

Also recently got a Tokai, talk about "bang for the buck"......... really impressive guitar....... ?

I quite like Blades... I think they pretty cool... though I don't know if anyone still brings them in.

Quite a while back I saw the Texas Special... man was this thing beautiful. All shiny and sparkly and stuff... and it had an awesome sound... but yeah... haven't seen much of them lately

a newish brand to hit the markets that make what seem to be quite nice guits at a very reasonable price are VINTAGE.

Just today saw an awesome goldtop LP with P90's ☹

They also make a mean SG. pups and hardware are wilkinson. Not shabby

About 10 years ago I bought a lovely archtop (ES175 copy) at Andy's in Denmark street ---a JUNO. Have you ever heard of this brand? Can't find anything on the Net even remotely pointing to that. Very nice quality indeed.

@Aubs....PRS is of course excellent guits imho. Been GASSING for one lately as well ?

I love archtops, acoustic or otherwise....they've got that classy classic looks about them.

My mate has a London Burns Vistasonic (circa 1962) . . .

After all these years, the action still sets up real slick and is a pleasure to play. The tri-sonic (Brian May used them) pups give a real wide variation in sound, and it's got the famous "Wild Dog" setting on the 3-way switch, which is like a built-in overdrive on your guitar!

....a budy of mine got hold of a Xtone,the shape is kinda,um...ja,u kinda have to get use to it,its kinda warped..but its a very comfterbil guitar,and GR8 sounding....think the compony is actualy owned by ESP? iv neva played a esp,but iv playd a ltd,the lespaul copy,the 1000 one,with the mother of pearl binding(not my cup of tee...) and it was awsum...realy...and most peopel think there only good for metal....but thats a total misperseption...

Anderson - yes please. I'll take a carve top Atom with Bigsby trem & a Hollow Cobra, thanks.

A very good & unusual maker in the mid-range price bracket (i.e. Tokai to Fender USA prices) is Duesenberg from Germany. Take a look at their stuff. Of course you can get completely quirky and go for Eastwood.

We're also leaving out G&L, and Fret King have started a well-regarded range.
