A bit of a problem that I have been having is that I try out a whole bunch of different kind of strings and get to the point that for each guitar I have a preference. The problem is actually that I dont seem to be able to source all the strings at a single outlet. Also, for instance, on one of my guitars I like the D'Addario XL half rounds and noone seems to keep them in stock. So, I was wondering if anyone orders strings from online vendors and if it is actually worthwhile. I want to support the local guys but hey, if they cant give me what I'm looking for then what do I do?

IIRC I think Riaan orders strings in bulk from overseas. I would like to do this at some stage too, but I generally only use one type of strings.

I have the same problem - no-one bothers stocking my nylon, 12-string, or bass sets and I have to special order each time.
Forget strings and beyond - shipping is $30 for the first 10 sets to SA then $5 per each additional 10 sets. PLUS they reserve the right to up the delivery charge on dispatch.
Juststrings.com are a viable option if you buy in bulk - $40 per order (within reason - order a few hundred sets and they will revise the shipping). Not only do they have the sets the local stores don't bother to stock, but also their sets are only $4-5 for most standard nickel/steel electric sets (Ernie Ball, D'addario, Dean Markley, etc.).
