My buddy's house was broken into over the weekend while he was away and his beloved 70's Jazz Bass was stolen. The serial number is S863964 They also stole...

They grabbed a lot of small stuff. Looks like they were only after what they could carry.

send the info to places like cash converters and cash crusaders...they all linked with computer system ....so if a stolen serial number is reported i'm sure they could link it to all their banch's............ thats a sad loss... the bass

If, like me you have a digital camera, do what I have done and photograph every distinguishing feature of your instrument(s). Nicks, scratches, rust patches on metal parts etc. Serial numbers will more than likely be removed. One guy I know writes his name in Coki pen under the pickguard on the front of the guitar body - even on a PRS! Fine if you don't intend to sell it in the distant future. I keep all the photos for possible insurance claims, but I'd rather have the instruments back, as long as they haven't been damaged. You could possibly engrave some ID on the underside of the bridge or neck mounting plate. For example, my Strat is engraved internally on the trem block. My first Fender was a 1969 sunburst Jazz bass, serial 261173, beautiful with the neck binding and block inlays, so I can apprecite how the victim feels.

I've really got to get on that. But what happens when the insurance company has paid? Doesn't your beloved instrument belong to a pack of corporate vultures once it's recovered and identified?

GREAT NEWS, The guitar has been recovered.

Thanks to some honest people i have it back.

The story is after three years it was bought by a guy in a pawn shop who then sold it to another person.
That person saw the on guitar forum post and then contacted me.
Within days had the bass back in my possession.

What a miracle, God is so good. ?

Wowzers, that is awesome. I guess instruments being unlike cars and aren't just going to be chopped up helps.

Thanks, and it was actually a no brainer from the moment i saw that the SN matched with the bass I bought that it had to return to its original owner....... I thing Sugen was very lucky that i was doing some google and guitarforum searches on what started as a lazy saterday morning ?

Maybe it would be a good idea to have stolen guitar and gear section here on the forum... as this case proofs, i really helps and keeps us alert
