What do people think about SA's own Watershed... ?

They're pretty naff in my books. But they know what they're doing and the music seems sincere, so good for them. Unfortunately their target audience does not include me.

I don't follow.....? What is their target group then...? ??? I like them on record. They do not sound too good live imho...

First time I heard their song on radio I initially thought it was REM - sounded very Michael Stipe-ish... Then about a month or so after that I saw em live and they sounded Nothing like the recording. I was not impressed and havent bothered with them since. Mind you, the mullets might also have had something to do with it...

If I had a choice I would say Parlotones. The first album Watershed did was good, the rest I just don't like.

You know, it's the easiest thing to knock someone and difficult to praise.
I say leave the Parlotones and Watershed alone. They are musos who are trying to make a living in a very small market here in SA, and are obviously playing/writing/recording/marketing music that appeals to as wide a market as they can.
In my experience I find that those who are the biggest critics are the ones who are not cracking it. At least the Parlotones and Watershed have done it!

Good grief! Are you okes bored or what? So I dont dig these two bands but a lot of people do. But what you can get out of having a group j-off about these guys goodness only knows.

Agreed Ray, both these band are great in their own right.
We might not like them, but there are thousands that do like both bands!

I went to a Watershed show the other day and so I phoned my buddy so he could also listen and I hadnt held up the phone for 30 seconds and some other oke smacked me. I dont know why!

Yeah, I agree Vic, rather just say "It's not my thing for reason/s 1 2 3" and move on.

I disagree with you guys in some ways. I think it's fine to hold strong opinions on bands and music. No swear words have been used. No one on the forum has been disrespected. If someone says that some band, or some piece of equipment that I like is a childish joke, well then game on. ? As long as they're not making attacks against me directly ("You have crap taste in guitars/music/whatever") I don't think there's anything too hard to handle going on.

As I get a little older I find more reasons to respect artists that don't move me, or equipment that I don't choose to use. But I think there's still a place for a strongly held opinion. For some people there are good reasons not to compromise on these things.
