NGD: My meagre offering

Is a Yamaha FG750S. I like it plenty except I hate the stock strings it came with. They feel like sticky. I know they coated and I really dont get on with coated strings. But no matter, will change that soon, soon. And next week will take it to Pete Buckle for bone nut and saddle and general once over although everything seems to be just fine otherwise. You know, I dont know if it is my imagination but the bone stuff just seems to improve things. And also I guess the guy you have faith in as a guitar fixer upper just seems to make you feel better about your instrument. Like your hoouse doctor, I guess.

Ja well, for a while now I have not had a steel string guitar so I been scouting around and not wanting to spend too much. I had a Cort before and not happy with it. Not that it was a bad guitar but I dunno. So, I was reading somewhile back that the FG730s was really something in it's price range and this 750 came up pretty cheap somewhere and I went and got it earlier in the week. I like Yamaha stuff. As for the back and sides, I dont think they solid, only the top. What it's made of doesnt really matter to me as I dont listen too sharp and I think that if it is only a thin little sliver of sycamore over all the other stuff in the laminate it shouldnt matter. It looks OK I guess. Whe nI get a bit better at playing the damned thing then I'll go for something a little more substantial.

Congrats and nothing meagre about it - the FG750s get good reviews consistently. Sycamore is an established back and side wood (although more commonly used for flamenca blanca nylons).

+1 on bone for nuts and saddles. Hard wearing, good sounding, self lubricating (at least unbleached bone is), ecologically sound and good looking. A bit harder to cut and smells horrible if cut fast - but that's your luthier's problem, not yours ?

Congrats ou Boet, hope it gives you years of pleasure. All I know about Yamaha is that Carlos Santana was an endorsee for quite some time, until PRS came along.

You are not alone, I could'nt give 2 hoots about all that technical stuff. Just wanna play a good guitar, with good tone, a good feel, and it makes me happy, "finish and klaar".

However, I do admire the guys who have the time and patience to spend more time modding, and going into all that detail, I'd rather spend the limited time that I can afford playing......... ?

BTW. What happened with the Bass??

Y'know, I looked at this business of buying a P-Bass and I considered it against the fact that I am just wanting to mess about with it a bit and a po' ol' country boy at that, and I thought to myself that maybe a Fender can hang on awhile even though plenty people told me it was a real bargain at the price. So, I got myself an Ibanez beginner sort of thing (I forget the letters and numbers now). Maybe if it kicks in good then I will go for something else. So, now I sommer slap in an amp as well. And at the time I went for one of those Laney Cub 10 amps as well. Added to that is that I am on the prowl for a new set of golf clubs as well (just irons 'cause I'm hitting driver great but still takes you to 10 G's). And also, I dont have a pal called Joe so makes for some fancy footwork on my behalf.

Actually, I think I used the word "meagre" as a response to not liking the strings on the thing. I am pretty happy with the guitar.

Ja and as far as the tonewood 'n all goes, I have read the stuff on the internet and here and in books but when I look at it is a thin plank so I reckon I pick it up and play it to see if I like it, well for acoustic anyway. But maybe it can be like food? You can take some very good quality ingredients and turn it into crap or you can take some pretty average stuff and present something fit for a king.

Hahahaha.......I think my pal Joe skipped the country, I need to play all sorts of other mind games now Ray (like "our children will inherit some nice stuff") .......it seems to work........for now......!
