That is just oh so sweet. The first pic shows how deep the carve is on the top compared with my early 80s Les Paul. In fact you can see a lot of the 50s Les Paul features - the binding leaving the top in the cutaway, the knob position indicators. Very nice. Any idea what it weighs?

No offence, but are the colours accurate? Seems a bit darker/shifted to red than I would expect.

No idea, but seems a bit lighter than my Gibson LP Std. Will do a comparison in a few days, I've spent about an hour playing it last night, so too soon to tell. But so far, I am really impressed.

No Alan, the colous are nowhere near accurate. I just shot them, and posted, did not do any colour-corrections, that's Leani's job......hahahaa.....I used one light from one side only and a black reflector (which caused that red/ darker shift, but that shows up the contours/profile better) instead of a white, (it blew out the colour a bit on the first pic).

The other two, I just put the guitar down and shot it cause Kmi was bugging me to shoot him too.... :?

BTW, is your monitor colour-corrected??? ...... lol........just kidding........ ?

Of course! Well, as close as an LCD display can be ? - a slight blue shift.

Just interested as there is a lot of variation - some "goldtops" are more "coppertops". My Hamer is more a champagne gold. I found some pics of the high-end LS-160S which looked very good.

I think the Tokais are slightly paler - more champagne as you say - than original 1950s Goldtops with the copper flecks. Those are a little darker, a little greener looking even (or is it my imagination) than modern copies. The last pic looks most like the daylight colour in other Tokai goldtop pics.

Lighter than your LP standard. Heh heh. And to think the Tokai's completely solid.

I actually looked at the LS160S at Andy's this morning, they are exactly the same colour (as the LS95S, that is), but like I said, just shot it, no colour correction, with probably not the right reflector.

Well, slightly, but I'll check out the weight properly and let you know ASAP. I may be wrong, you know, adrenalin, excitement.....blah, blah, blah......we'll see...... ?

I was much more concerned about the tone, playability, set-up, etc, all of which is superb, don't need to do anything. PJH did not exaggerate, these guitars are awesome! ?

It's basically the same as yours, just with a one piece body, long tenon and nitro finish. Did you happen to see the retail price on it?

How do those P90's sound ?

The two models with the S suffix are goldtops with P-90s, one cheaper LS95s, one, LS165s a premium nitro-finished, one-piece back model.

The cheapest MIJ model, the LS92, comes either black or gold-top with hums. The premium LS160 plain top (nitro, single-piece back, etc.) also comes in gold-top with hums or sunburst.

Probably Tokai's biggest weakness outside the Japanese market are their crazy model names - with codes reflecting their suggested retail price in thousands of Yen. This means that, as has just occurred now, the model names actually change with inflation. So you kind of need to become quite familiar with the models that you're interested in to know what's what.
