Any laptops for sale?

I'll be looking for a cheapo laptop 2nd hand. Why not new? I figured that buying a new 2 core due 32bit laptop now will be a really expensive (R15k) investment that will be out of date within a year when Vista works and 64 bit is available. I know the old saying that if you wait for the next best thing in computers you will wait forever, because there is always something better on the horizon. In this case it is a matter of I have a computer that works and I just need something extra, i.e. portable and I will most probably not use it for recording. So, a cheapo 2nd hand centrino is good enough for what I am looking for.

Anybody knows where to buy one?

I wouldn't recommend 2nd hand or reconditioned Laptops to anyone. If you are looking for to do menial stuff , Word, Excel, portable studio etc you don't have to buy top of the range. Last year I bought an HP G5000 to do the aforementioned menial tasks. I also used it on stage for live performances to generate midi backtracks and prompt lyrics and chord changes, it was even changing the patches on my GT-6 pedal thru a midi port. The closest to this model selling at the moment is the HP 530 - 2Ghz celeron , 1gb Ram, 120Gb H/disk costing R5k.

In CT I always buy from these guys http://www.cafeviva.co.za/ because they cheap reliable and not full of shyte they have a branch in Midrand as well - Hope that helps ?

I've only ever had 2 laptops and both were 2nd-hand, both have lasted me really long. Having said that, if you have the bucks, buy new. The first thing to go on a laptop is the hard drive (sometimes the screen) and both are VERY irritating problems to have when you NEED your laptop but it's not under warranty anymore. (And you don't have a backup, like clever me ?)

you can get a celeron 1.6ghz i think its 80 or 120 gb HDD and 1gb ram fro R4999. It comes with windows vista which u'll want to load xp on. its an HP. Also comes with dvd R/W. If you want the laptop for music/studio recording. I wouldn't go for a celeron but rather a Pentium.

The cheapest advert I've got for a new centrino 1.8khz is at Game for about R5,300. I was thinking that this was a bit more than what I am going to need for now, so that's why I was looking at celeron. Cut the price in half for 2nd hand and I might have been thinking that R2,000 is a good buy. Somehow, the prices on the web sites quoted above does not compare favourable to what I was thinking - so I have to re-think.
