OK... so I have this video file that I want to upload to youtube or boxnet. This is an MPEG
2 minutes 36 seconds of video. The file is 114 Mb ! This is going to take a while to upload
I need to make this smaller. I've tried using VLC to convert to other formats (AVI, MVA) but the results are very poor quality. Lots of lost pixels - especially on a transition from one shot to another.
Any suggestions on keeping the file size down? I'm assuming that MPEGs have settings that can be tweaked to reduce file size (obviously with trade-offs in quality). Any suggestions on converting to a more size efficient format (though I note that Youtube recommend mpeg)?

Hoezit Bob!
Argh the quest for decent video compression software is never ending. I've been through this many a time with the model videos, always a huge problem especially with the helicopter videos where you want to record in HD and compress properly to conserve quality yet get the size of the clip "interweb friendly". By no means an easy feat.
Without forking out big bucks it's a sad affair but all is not lost fortunately. Have a google for "Free Zune Video Converter". It's a freeware proggy and the options are pretty incredible for a freeby. You can custom bitrates, FPS, Res, audio and even set limits for output file sizes etc. I've had very good luck with this one without hunting codecs and experimenting your behind off, nice predictable results just tweaking the perimiters. You don't just sit with a proggy that downright ruins pixels which destroys the video from the get go.
