I just called Tuerk Music in Joburg their price on the Vypyr 30 is R4395.00 INC VAT, PLUS that is full retail, they can do a better deal for cash if you ask them nicely... see not more expensive, and in this case CHEAPER than the USA... now someone buy me a beer, I've made way too many phone calls today, LOL.

I'm sure you can, fact is as with any retailer they want to sell product, they have overheads, but at the end of the day a sale is a sale, put in their shoes I'd rather give a better discount, even if it means I loose out a bit to get my brand into the market.

They WON'T be able to match the USA price, Sweetwater sells in a week what AT sells in a year RE the L1 systems, so it is going to be more expensive... period, supply & demand economics plus they are MADE in the USA, they have to get shipped here, duties, VAT etc and then the company still has to make SOME kind of profit, it is after all a buisness.

Support the local guys, we are not all trying to screw people over, some are more greedy than others but the majority of us want to see music coming out of SA made with great gear we get behind.

It is also why I'm trying to build more and more gear locally so you don't have to look aboard for quality/boutique options, there is a WEALTH of talent in SA!

the worst is Fender.. in america a strat is as american as a burger so the market is flooded, you can pick up a second hand for several thousand..

i saw an eric clapton signature strat brand new on ebay going for like $1400 which at this exchange is around 9-10k.. you would be paying 30k for one here
the standard strats go for around 4-7k in rands in america and here you paying 15-20k

the guitar stores who get them in bulk must be getting the strats at a few thousand, they must scream with joy every time they sell a strat :?

its ridiculous.. at least gibsons are expensive everywhere haha

* I paid R40 000.00 for my 2006 City Golf 1.4 and it had less than 800K on it.

South African get used to being phuked up the arse with these HUGE prices, and then they go, "nah, it is not sooo bad", i say BS !

Lets look at SA prices like this :

Working muso's (who NEED the gear) are not millionaires the last time i checked.

Gibson SG Std cost $1200.00.

So, working on min. wage, in the States you have to work X-amount of hours to afford it.

I can bet you, (a million to one) a person in SA, with a min. wage job will have to work a minimum of 10times more hours (if not much, much more) to afford that SG Standard (everything else being equal).

You want a Mesa Dual Rect with matshing cab.

* US bloke must work X-amount of hours at min. wage.

* SA person, must work how many hours at min. wage for the same amp and cab ???

I bet you the poor bastard from SA will have to work for many, many YEARS to afford that piece of kit.

Something is very, very wrong in this country and the sad things is, i KNOW it is not gonna get getter - price wise.

most of the cool shit (and by cool shit i mean electronics and music gear), are cheaper overseas.

My Jackson DK2 cost me R5000 from the UK. A big music outlet in jhb said they could get it for me for R11000. That is just stupid!

My mate brought me a 1 TB harddrive from the uk for R1000, here you cant buy 500GB one for that.
Got a Canon camera for R3800 from the UK, here it costs R7500.

Electronics in Portugal are cheaper too. at least half the price.

Hi Guys,
I'm experiencing the cost of buying international gear - got a really nice Fender SuperChamp XD amp from the US, and only realised it's spec'd for US 110V voltage after purchase [stupid, I know]. The standard voltage converter I bought from electronics shop doesn't seem to be able to power the amp and all I get is fuzz and whine. Any idea where I could buy / get built a transformer I can use? Also not sure if this is a regular issue with US voltage amps? I didn't think that I'd need an elaborate voltage converter? Any advice would be great - I'm dying to crank up my amp!

Guys...I said it before...BUY PRE-OWNED. There's plenty out there to pick and choose from. If you're looking for something specific, try an ad in the media...also plenty to choose from.

Try advertising for what you're looking for. You never know....It has nearly always worked for me

Why would you want to import a step down transformer from overseas, the shipping costs would be more than the actual transformer that you can buy here in Joburg....I think you've got "IMPORT" on the brain. ?

Zakspeed in Woodmead Sandton, next to Marshall Music, they sell step down transformers...I used one on my Rivera.

Really? I bought my AC30 and Bandmaster off there, not to mention LOADS of pedals/stomboxes, keyboards, some studio gear etc... for prices that were MORE than fair, even compared to prices abroad... just need to either look harder, or act faster ?

I second that, I managed to go from a R3000 buy of a tele, to a american deluxe via simple trades, and selling for more than I bought for. I also managed to get a ac50 NEW for R5000, as well as trade that for a twin, and then a bassman 10 for R3000 in full working order.

I dont think I have made a loss off gumtree, infact its where I make most my money

The cost of gear is cheap in South Africa.

I walked into a Pawn Shop in Louis Botha avenue, saw a grille cloth sticking out from behind a bunch of old PC printers...removed the printers to find a 1966 Vibrolux Reverb, with the original Jensen Red Label speakers, GEC KT66 power valves, and a bunch of Mullards in the pre-amp....I walked out 5 minutes later with it, I paid R 950.00.

Sold it in the States for $1800.00
