I'm sure I'm not the first one to notice this but musical equipment in South Africa is extremely expensive. An amp that costs 169 pounds in the UK is R3200 on the shelves of our music stores. 169 pounds at the current exchange rate is now about R2028. It gets even worse for the higher end equipment. Now, i know shipping also comes into play but how much shipping would you honestly end up paying if you purchased something like a Peavey Vypyr 30 from a sit like sweetwater.com, for example?
This is a very sensitive subject for me too :
I work i the US for up to 10months of the year, and buy everything over there, and then, when i come to "visit" on vacation, i have to pay R145.00 - R170.00 for bloody strings, depending what i want !
And then i get a heart attack in CNA, when i see an Orange Rockerverb 2X12 combo being advertized for *R45 000.00 - my dear GOD, that same thing is only $2200.00 in the US, and i can deff pick that up for $1800.00 or less on the pre-owned market.
* I paid R40 000.00 for my 2006 City Golf 1.4 and it had less than 800K on it.
South African get used to being phuked up the arse with these HUGE prices, and then they go, "nah, it is not sooo bad", i say BS !
We are getting screwed through evey hole we have !
