when i play into my marsall 15 watt amp for a long period of time occaisionally there is a weird clicking noise, it sounds like the noise you get when you push the string on to the magnet in the pickup. what is this noise and why would it be happening?
See Aja's reply. This is something that has come up several times on this forum lately.
It may not be the solution in your case. It seems, based on your post, that the trouble only starts when the amp has got hot.
Try and find a pattern to this. Does it happen at a certain time of day? Does it happen if you just turn the amp on and leave it standing? If you move the amp around a lot does this noise only happen in certain locations? And, yes, is there an electric fence nearby the place where you are noticing the problem?
Or you could just cut to the chase and discuss the matter with a reputable repair person.
