That would be me.
I realised after I had posted that the quality of sound had a lot to do with it. I had listened to Parkening first and when I heard the original composer play I was struck by the dullness of the recording. Although I love Parkening's interperatation, whether it's the recording or not. It seems a little more renaissance in his rendition and has a bit more punctuated rhythm. That changes the whole song for me.
I think perhaps I had become a bit too familiar with Parkening's performance to objectively judge York's, but it did seem more folksy. Where some(most?) may like York's emotive playing I still can't help having goosebumps when Parkening's plays it. In no way did I mean to imply that York was/ is not fully proficient in playing.
I'm still mysitified by the song and I realy love the ethos of his music. I think if ever there were someone to represent what I love about the guitar it would be this composer and this song. Thanks for listening to it!
