Howzit guys, I wish I'd thought of asking this hear earlier...
The scratchplate screws on my both my Strat and Tele are in various states of corrosion and I've been looking for somewhere that sells the exact same screws to replace them with. About a month ago I took one of the screws to my local Mica, it's a big one, to see if they had anything, it appears that I'm looking for a 3x13 countersunk, dome-headed stainless steel screw, but they said they were out of stock of the stainless steel ones and they were on order, come back next week... they did have the right screw but not stainless steel so it kind of has that blue-ish zink anodised look to it which would look great in a fence but not on my Fenders.
Anyway, after going back every week for about a month and a half they now tell me they don't stock this particular screw after all.
Can someone please help me, I hate running around looking for things in shops, I hate shopping (unless it's for musical equipment)... does anyone know where I can find these screws in the Joburg area, preferably Norther Suburbs?

You're actually not looking for stainless but for chrome plated. In any case, rather than spending your money on petrol/diesel searching for screws, you can order genuine stuff from overseas (see the links section on this forum) or go to the better guitar store / luthier (ditto). It will be twice as expensive as Mica screws, but at the prices of screws it still does not amount to much.

Depending on where in Jozi you are, you can contact Music Connection in Craighall. They are big on Fender and they usually keep a fair amount of spares. Ask for Jacques.
There are also many fastener specialist suppliers around who might be able to help. I know Reliable bolt in Eastleigh, Edenvale are very good. I usually get just about anything I need there.
If you come unstuck locally then do as Gearhead suggests and get from Stewmac etc overseas.

I bring my own in, and prefer stainless rather than chrome. Ordering 100 at a time it works out quite cheap.

What about Terry Distributors in CT? Anyone used them before? I have mailed them for a quote recently and they were very quick and friendly.

That's for the help guys, I went to Music Connection (should have gone there first) and they had the Fender ones in stock, now both Strat and Tele are sparkling again and looking great. R69 for about 25 screws though... so I bought two packs.
