I really prefer instrumentals, to listen to and when I'm making them. But yeah lyrics would space it nicely, something to think about.. maybe one day.

You don't have to sing yourself ? Maybe if you come across a good metal vocalist who writes good material you could ask him/her to come up with something - strictly as an alternative version. It might come across as a great single concept too - vocal tune and instrumental together.

Anyway you go, it's a really nice track. And indistinguishable to my ears from commercial recordings.

Just the rock kit drum samples included with Cubase Essential 4/5. I was surprised how good they sound. Not as good as DFH or superior drummer, a real drummer would have put more drum breaks in there, for one thing. DFH is good at that stuff. But good enough for now.

I bought DFH a couple months ago.. I would highly recommend it. But your drums were sounding good as is.

Doc-Phil - yeah I kinda figure once I get DFH I'll spend hours tweaking it instead of making music! I'll get around to it later. Just wanna get some tracks down while the inspiration and energy lasts!

Tell me, do I need to buy EZdrummer and DFH? DFH itself is just the drum samples..or not? Their website is totally obtuse about this.

Unfortunately you have to buy EZ drummer and DFH. DFH won't work by itself, its kinda like an expansion pack. DFH has its own interface, its covered in flames 8). Plus it comes with a lot of midi metal loops, including some done by some big name metal drummers (including Thomas Haake from Meshuggah).

I use the normal EZ drummer occasionally, normally when doing slower, accoustic stuff, so it's not so much of a waste.

Ahhh man this is a cool song. And it does sound a bit like dethklok, quite strange lol , seeing as you've never heard them before. I like the opening smack of guitar. And I enjoyed the guitar tone as well

I thanked BMU for decent shred. It is really heavy this track. I have been thinking about the ingredients of this genre for some weeks now.

@Conrad: Thanks, appreciate that. The vague plan is to get about 8-10 songs together yeah. Even greater vagueness after that, this is just for fun and to have something tangible after all those hours of practicing.

Ingredients of this genre...yeah that's an interesting topic. My view is good metal is closer to classics than to blues in structure or complexity. Or at least the metal I like is. Just with much more energy. (Not that I know what I'm talking about on any fundamental music theory basis.)
