Hey my first post to this Brilliant forum.I have been reading about the mod to the laney cub (Modded by Matta) and have heard the results of a speaker change and they were quite dramatic.My question to matta is ,do you think that same jensen could make a similar difference to the epi?Anyone else on the forum with an epi?

Hah Hah, Andy I was just thinking about you... welcome to the Forum!
I took your Epi apart this evening to confirm the revision/model, it is later unit as it has DC heaters, unlike the earlier models, which is why it is so quiet esp. in comparison to the Fender/Laney. I can already hear/see a couple improvements already, selectable tone caps to voice the amp (Fenderish/Voxish and Bruteish) and def. a new speaker!
I was/am really blown away by the Jensen I put into Fritz's Cub today and feel that it would be a nice upgrade indeed, no need to upgrade the tubes as the NOS ditties you stuck in there sound great.
The Epi is a GREAT amp for the money, I'm bummed they pulled out of SA. They are better constructed than most other 'chinese' budget amps, a nice thick PCB, decent size traces/layout and one thing I REALLY digged is having multiple primaries on the power transformer, so you can tap it for any country in the world, they way it USED to be, even has a couple unused secondary windings.

Heh Heh.Selectable tone caps.That sounds like a step in the right direction.I have found that in its standard format it is a tad on the Dark side.I have put graeme's' tube tamer ( great piece of Kit) on this amp and put it through my fender 2 X 12 cab and man it sounds great.Can't wait to see you (Matt) work yer magic!
