Hi Guys
I use a Gt-6 and often in Dec we do a couple of gigs. i just struggle when switching smoothly between the different effect patches. I.e going from clean to distortion etc.
Timing has to be spot on and sometime you are singing and have to switch simultaneously!!
How do you cope with switching between patches? I suppose it has to do with practise!?!
Cheers,
Matt

It is largely practice, but the GT-6 is patch based, so there are a few things you can do to make your life a little easier.
Simplify your patches for live - you should be able to do the majority of stuff with one of each: clean, crunch and drive patches, with just a few "special" effects here and there.
Keep all the patches you need for each song in their own bank, so you can just swap between them quickly. Ideally you should never have to change banks during a song, keeping the tap-dance to a minimum.
Use your CTL pedal to switch on and off one effect in a patch, that can extend the range of tones from one bank. A clean or crunchy amp sound with a switchable overdrive is a lot easier to use than writing two patches, one with OD and one without.
Sometimes if you have a lot of patches, it's easier to rig up two non-latching footswitches (like the Boss FS-5U) to a stereo plug and use those to scroll patches (via the SUB EXP jack on the back). Put all your patches in order for your set list and then you just need to use mostly one footswitch to scroll up. The main advantage of this is it scrolls through the patch numbers regardless of bank, so changing from 09 - 10 (for example) is only one foot tap. The downside is you have to spend the time to set it up and if you deviate from the set list, you'd better have a list of songs with the starting patch number for each song handy. Ideally you name your patches with the song title too.
That's all I can think of now, but figure out what works bet for you and use it.

what I do is minimise. I take 4 basic tones that I want and keep it to one bank.
For Zerothirtyone I use;
1. Crunchy
2. Heavy Rhythym
3. Solo
4. Clean
Thats all the switching I do.
For Swell band, seeing as we do a lot of covers I try keep my tones very simple. I use more clean tones there than anything else so one lead patch in that case.
1. Clean, bluesy
2. Clean Jazzy
3. Solo Patch,
4. Acoustic simulator
Depending on what I am doing, I have a few banks set up the same in case I wind up in the wrong place, I know 3 will always be for lead and keep 4 clean. so I don't have to concentrate on it much.

Thanks that helps! I think the key for me is to make use of the CTL button more.
I need to fiddle more with the GT-6 I think I only know about 10% of what the unit can actually do!
