Incredible, I need to find me a surf guitar teacher!
That was rocking! Thanks for the clip!
Glad you liked it. You don't really need a surf guitar teacher. Just get a Dick Dale compilation. Slow the songs down if you can. It's important to realise that he doesn't just tremolo-pick non stop. Some notes he single picks. It creates a rhythmic variation that few surf-guitarists have.
Tremolo picking is quite hard (for me anyway) and needs great synchronisation between right and left hand. If it feels really hard, you're doing it wrong. Look at how Dick's left arm movement is relaxed and effortless, and yet the 16th notes come pouring out.
Start slow and get a good feel for the up/down movement. Then build up speed. Shredders should have no problems, as tremolo picking is part of their style already.
The sound comes from simply cranking your spring reverb (or one of the better spring simulators - Electro Harmonics Holy Grail or the new Boss Fender Reverb pedal) to the max. You get that "drippy" "underwater" sound.
Then consider groups like Man, or Astro-Man?, The Mermen, The Bambi Molesters (great Croatian band), and Laika and the Cosmonauts (a Fiinnish band).
