WantzChas Will an electric guitar work through an acoustic amp? What will it sound like? Just a random question. ?
aja Yes it will work, but it won't sound all that good. Acoustic amps have a higher preamp gain to compensate for the low output peizoelectrics typically found in acoustic guitars. The higher outputs of the magnetic pickups found in the electric may have varying results. In any case, every electric that I have tried on my acoustic amp has sounded thin and digital, like a recording instead of an actual guitar amp. A much better option by a mile is to get a good preamp pedal like a blackstar HT-5 DUAL or Radial tonebone, or even the Korg pandora/other multieffects, and use the acoustic amp like a PA, but your specific acoustic amp may not like playing something other than pure clean tones...
WantzChas I have no intentions of using or even trying it out, just curious. Thanks for answering my question aja wrote ...get a good preamp pedal like a blackstar HT-5 DUAL or Radial tonebone... I have a Blackstar HT-DISTX, keen to try that on an acoustic :?
AlanRatcliffe No problem with doing it, but it'll sound very flat, like DIing into a PA system. However, using a SansAmp or a Pod or some other kind of modeller between the guitar and amp works very well. The modeller makes the amp noises and the acoustic amp faithfully makes 'em louder.
