Ok folks, if you will, please just tell me now if I am thinking right here. With all this recent frenzy of Hamer guitars on special at muz.co.za, I've been looking there quite a bit. I've seen all the archtops dissappear and now I want to know, this model still seems to be available. My plan is to put on some heavy strings and raise the action a tad, and try to get it flattened. By that I mean the strings all sort of level instead of following the fretboard radius. By that I aim to either adjust the existing nut or get a new one. The bridge, I dont know what to do about that, is anything necessary? It is so cheap and I am sure the stuff on it is not so lekker but I can replace all that over time if necessary. Viable?

Why do you want to flatten the action? It's already fairly flat as it is (14-1/2"). If it's for slide, it'll probably be fine just raising it up a bit.
Otherwise it is a cheapish guitar (normal retail R2,600) at a very cheap price, almost certainly worth the money. You can do better, but not at that price.

Thanks. Yip didnt even check the radius so that should be ok. I want to keep it in open G and it is fine being cheap. I reckon that fat strings will sort a bit of that out. Also, I am guessing that the finsih quality cant be too different from those archtops you all went and got and said is quite OK. Can always slap some other pickups and stuff in later?

To be honest, I haven't played one so I don't know the finish quality. It's probably as good as the other models in the range, but I'd hate to say it is without seeing one. It's also a bolt-on, unlike the other models in the range. Pickups can usually always improve a cheaper guitar, but try the stock pickups first - perhaps they'll surprise you.
