Guys I need some help please...I wish to buy a digital recorder for home use. What will you recommend...something good ,but not too expensive.
Will Shure SM58's be OK for recording voice AND instruments (guitar-electric/acoustic and Roland keyboard) or does one really need the expensive studio type mics...? I am planning to do much double tracking, especially for voice and harmonies
Your assistance is appreciated. Thanks.

I find the Boss recorders really great. I don't use fancy Mic's yet, I guess it depends on what you are trying to do. I use the cheaper Shure, the PG58 and a Boss BR600.
The Micro BR is cheaper but for me the BR600 has better rhythym capabilities and is slightly easier to use with more buttons. There is also more software available like the rhythym editor, which I used for the first time today. I also made a sheet that helps me plan my recordings. It needs a little fine tuning and you can find it on my blog (link below) if you want to read more.
I don't know any other brands or their quality and capabilities, maybe someone else can share info on that. The Boss Micro BR and teh BR600 are very portable and my rechargeables last a long time in them. The bigger ones are also cool but, again, I haven't worked with them.
Otherwise, (man this is a long post)
If you're looking for a computer based setup that does make the interface with keyboards and MIDI easier to work with and there are many different DAW's to use. I find Magix Samplitude very easy to work with, it's like ageneric version of protools, similarly laid out and functions.
