Know what I've been thinking okes? Maybe lots of people are going to be getting gear and guitars for Christmas. And maybe some of the people dont want what they get. Like maybe someone wants a Fender Stratocaster and someone gives him a Gibson Les Paul. So what does he do? He waais down to the pawn shop and dumps it for a couple hundred bokke, maybe a G. Then you come along after new year or so and you get the thing for about 2 maybe 3 G's. So, hang on to your bucks.

Pawn shops dont always work like that. ones I know try sell everythign for the new price...

there's no stopping dollar signs in a pawn shop operators eyes when he hears the price of Gibsons new...

Lol......hahahaha......now really Ray, what are the chances of that EVER happening??? My bet is he'll get an Eboness, and he was wishing for a Sender, now that is more the likely scenario.
But then again, with my luck, it'll probably happen, and I get to hear of it 2 hours after someone has snapped it up!... >☹

I'm with Don on this one - in my experience, a lot of the guitars, sports goods and various other things in the chains like Cash Crusaders, especially, are really not cheap. In fact, frequently overpriced if they're the brand new musical instruments they have on display. Maybe the smaller pawn shops might offer up bargains more regularly, but I'm sure most operators know the big names (in electric guitars) when they see them.

Now, Gumtree, on the other hand, might offer up plenty of gems come the new year!

And watch Gumtree and others. All the people that spent too much over the festives and cant eat and cant pay the rent and now there is not so many gigs 'n things - they gonna have to get creative. Make a few sacrifices. Am I making friends with the gigging musos here?

heheh gigs in jhb work in the reverse to the coast ........ Jhb is a graveyard in december ...and the gigs are sparse...... but once people come back from holiday the period from feb to start of winter is boom time for muso's in jhb ............ i only been here for 18 months now and i worked constantly through winter even....... and now dec only doing about 2/3 shows a week which is slow for me.......... was same last year ......... but feb it will boom......... where i think on coast the holidays are the boom time..........for gigs........

so maybe you will need to wait for at least june before you get your deals from gigging musos in jhb heheheh ...............

December is also slow in Durban, except no-paying gigs are plenty. ☹

Maybe NYE will have something. But for eg Sibaya have a band in the background on quiet days to encourage people to come and stay. In the Holidays they do anyway so there's no need for a band or any other attraction.

I'm sure Gumtree will pick up after 1 Jan with some nice goodies!

Just gonna find myself a branch and sit a watch and sooner or later there will be something to go take a look at. Some interesting shops down the old Joburg road. Cash crusaders and converters are far too savvy.

very true that cash crusaders /and c0 are becoming savvy to the value...thats cos they now connected to pc network where if one branch sells a squire for R1500 the next branch will too ..........

however the exception came at a cash crusaders in northmead mall for me where i picked up a yamaha C40 in mint condition for R199 ...... they retail for R1400 and with discount the last one i got for a student it was about R1000 so yeah a good deal...... and actually it plays well and sounds ok ...not great but i take it out at braai's ..... and when i teach students to whom i travel and don't want my gorgeous old yamaha in the hot car all day .........

also seen good prices on pedals at cash crusaders ...... often regardless of what they are they around R250 .....

so yeah i also love trawling the 2nd hand shops in search of toys............it's a fun hobby ........

damn one i missed out on was a fender squire jazz bass in mint condition for R650 and a nice one i played it ........ shoulda bought it on the spot .tho but went back next day only to find it gone.......
