What's the biggest audience you have ever played to?

Thought it would be interesting to see how many people you guys and girls have played to - if I include my wife and daughter, then my total is two ?

I've had people try talk to me, making requests in the middle of a song. It's easier if you are standing because now If someone approaches me I just turn and offer my back to them. They soon get the picture.

Couple of years ago we played at Lusitoland in Jhb, probably around 300 - 500 people. But general gigs are at pubs between 30 and 100 people. Mixed feelings about large or small venues, the large ones being getting the right sound you want and the smaller ones dealing with the drunk dude that wants to come and hijack the mike to sing along while you're playing,,,, >☹ :?

sometimes you got to hijack the stage from the singer...

I once played to a full restaurant by doing that...

they had some foreign national walking around amongst the tables with an acoustic guitar, singing a bunch of west African songs all in French..

when he came near our table, i asked him if he can play any dire straits...?? no...??? clapton..??? no...?? CCR...?? no...???

turns not, besides not knowing any contemporary western songs, .............he didn't know any English either...

so, being full of the courage that only a few beers can give you.. I took the guitar from him, and promptly entertained the entire restaurant - too loud applause - with 6 different versions of Yellow Submarine...

after about 25 minutes, I eventually found the owner of the guitar propping himself up at the bar... I gave him his guitar back and a R25.00 tip, and left ...

Hell you must of been a bit beered up, 25 minutes of Yellow Submarine is enough to kill anyone ? but at least Ringo wasn't singing ?

We followed Tessa Ziegler. Three of us in the group including Dan Patlansky, Howard Moon and myself (all on acoustic guitars). We were followed by Tony Cox. Heady stuff.

Up to 50 now at a gig last weekend.

5fm live sessions with Barney Simon in 98, and about 2500plp at Oppikoppie same year. Radio was cool, I thought it was being recorded, afterwards someone asked if I was nervous playing live to about 200k listeners. Put me on a stage with my axe, I'm in my element. Interviews on the other hand suck.

At a festival I played in the Guitar Hero competition final. We pulled a bigger crowd than the 2 bands playing at the time. Does that count?

I rented a carpeted house in Observatory Cape town many years ago. There must have been quite a few fleas in the carpets, So much so that if you put your sheet of music on the floor, you had an instant buy erratic metronome as you heard the tick - tick - tickaty- tick of the critters jumping across the paper. I estimate that there must have been quite a few thousand fleas of all ages and genders listening to me practice guitar every night. And yeah the critters where listening all right, one night I was sure that a cockroach and a cricket were trying to mimic my rendition of John Wiliams' Cavatina. ☹

I've played two gigs in front of my entire high school, two at a Keg in Kempton Park which was having a battle of the bands thing. Oh, and most Saturdays I try to serenade the girlfriend.

Now I miss playing in a band.....
