Cleaning a pedal case

I have a Carl Martin classic chorus. I made markings on the casing to assist with recalling the settings that I found useful. These were made with a permanent marker.

What can I use that will remove the markings but not damage the finish?

Isopropyl is usually good for that type of thing, but permanent marker does tend to stain a bit. The finish on most modern pedals is pretty resistant to all but abrasives, so if you want to get rid of all traces of a permanent marker, you may need a fine polishing compound (Brasso if all else fails), but it will polish up to a gloss if the pedal is matt and you have to be careful not to remove any silk screening.

Can one buy isopropyl at hardware stores? Chemists?

Fortunately the pedal has a gloss finish, and there's no silkscreening around the knobs - which is where I made the markings.

Wouldn't the cleaning/rubbing alcohol you can get atthe chemist do? That's ethanol, if I'm not mistaken. Could be isopropyl too, though.

Electronics shops will often have isopropyl as switch cleaner. Otherwise I buy bottles from the pharmacy - comes in handy for everything from cleaning strings to computer screens or to prevent swimmer's ear. Evaporates without a trace.

Rubbing alcohol is methyl alcohol I think.

You can also try nail varnish remover (Acetone).

I use it to remove permanent marking ink (Channel labels) on our mixer at church and does no damage to the finish.....

Edit...Also lets your pedal get in touch with it's feminine side.....?

I usually avoid acetone as it's one of the more vicious solvents and I don't like taking the risk. Bad for plastics and many kinds of paint.
