I actually couldn't watch after all - but that drummer I'll never forget - I wonder who the hell he was and what became of him. And Joe Cocker. Never forget. Why is Winterland controversial or was? I've just heard a track of his somewhere on a guitar compilation playing Blues - Hard headed woman or something and he was incredible.
The Winterland concert had a lot of sound equipment problems, and Jimi apologises several times for levels dropping out. A lot of people also say his playing wasn't up to par because of that but that concert has my favourite versions of Hey Joe, Red House, Spanish Castle Magic, Manic Depression, Fire, Sunshine and yes, even Wild Thing. Tax Free ROCKS. The intro to Hey Joe sounds like Eddie Van Halen at his peak, predating that style by quite a few years 8)

As an aside, on my CD copy the track numbers don't correspond to the listing - early days of CD!
It is by far my favourite live recording (video aside, that would be Jimi Plays Monterey and Zep at Royal Albert)
