Jeremy Clarkson

Jeremy Clarkson has such strong views that people will either love his humour; or want to see him assassinated.
I'm in the former group.
I read his stuff before going to sleep every night.
I'm a little traumatised ... as I'm more than 2/3 through his last book ... so will have to soon make a new bedtime reading plan ...

However ...
Last night I read the following; which I felt had to be shared:

He is speaking about the Ferrari 275; which he believes to be one of the most beautiful cars ever made:

When I saw one in the flesh for the first time last week I didn't really want to get in it and go for a drive.
And not only because I knew the brakes wouldn't work and I'd end up all dead.
No.
I didn't want to get inside because then I couldn't look at that gasp-inducing Pininfarina styling anymore.

In some way, I suppose, it's a bit like the old Fiat 124.
But because of the 72-spoke wire wheels and the four exhausts you just know it's a bit more special than that.
And it is.
Under the bonnet there's a 3.3 litre V12 engine.
We forget these days that to the Ferrari purist the V8 is a coarse aberration, an American import which has no place
providing the propulsion and the soundtrack in a real car.

A Ferrari must have a V12 in the same way that a real guitarist must have a Fender Stratocaster.

Hehehe, well said Mr. Clarkson. The man is obviously a lover of the finer things in life.... ?

Clarkson has opinions about everything (reminds me of somebody I know) and so he's entertaining. I think he talks bollocks some times and he can get on the high horse about things that he knows little about.

However I would not like to live in a world where the Jeremy Clarksons are not tolerated.

He's a big lover of icons. And more than any other guitar, the Stratocaster is an icon of American rock and roll to non-musicians. While a lot of guitarists consider all kinds of guitars iconic, I'd say the Strat is about the only one that the average non-player would have a hope of recognising.

It's got the 50's automobile-in-space styling and has a wider meaning than just to guitarists.

thats funny, have any of you ever felt that way about a guitar? that you don't want to play it because it looks so good?

Or that it plays so good that you don't want to put it down?

Sad fact is, and it comes as no surprise, that ol' Gezza is in fact an accomplished drummer. ?

Sadly, you can't take his word as gospel. The man is fairly clued up but he's an entertainer first and foremost.

I love Clarkson... Even though he rips my beloved Porsche to shreds.. We have all heard the comments, "A VW Beetle with running shoes"

I think he is a great entertainer. I like him none the less, he cracks me up...

I have to agree with the Stratocaster stuff hahaha ?

Clarkson just can't come to terms with the fact that the little 3.5L 6 Cylinder Porsche smokes his beloved V12 Ferrari's on the track and on the straights. We all know that a Porsche is the definition of "super car" ?
