Matta champ strikes again!

aja

Indeed, it is very sneaky.

So yesterday I went to ye olde local music shoppe to play the Fender champ modded by Matta through a 2x12 cab (blackstar artisan with two Celestion Vintage 70's) It sounded fantastic! I completely underestimated this amp's capabilities. That fender twang came through beautifully on the cleans, with quick picking giving it a real bite. Cranking the volume led to some incredibly smooth and sweet overdrive sounds.

The funny part was when a guy I know, who used to work at the shop but is now going to the UK, strolled in. Now, he has owned some pretty nice stuff, like hughs and kettner (spelling?) and just the other day bought a Fender Hotrod Deluxe. You should have seen his face.

He walked in, saw the tiny champ on the huge cab and smirked out an "oh cute". Then he played through it using a Scheckter Diamond series and I swear he looked like he was going straight home to sell his hotrod. He was blown away! He can be an arrogant guy some times, so for him to call his buddy over and show him how amazing it sounded must have been hard for him... We even pushed it hard using the MI Audio Tubezone and the champ performed to no end. Damn this thing is loud! The two guys stood there peeking inside the little champ, trying desperately to figure out what the hell is inside this ugly little box! They even followed all the cables to make sure where they went haha!

"Matta champ - upsetting people regarding their purchases everywhere it goes!"

I cannot recommend matta enough! If you are looking for a great alternative to store bought commercial overpriced junk, give a matta custom amp a try.

Hah Hah, Aja, firstly thank you for your kind words! 2ndly, I want my wife to print me that quote on a T-Shirt, LOL. Awesome! I'm not sure if there is any kind of 'official' word for what I do to amps/pedals... though I welcome suggestions, in both the Queens and Presidents English, Hah Hah.

I'm glad the amp continues to bring you joy, it is a great motivator to keep doing what I do.

Cheers

"Matt Allison... because your tone mattas"

Well firstly I think you should get a brand name going, using an online handle doesn't seem like a good idea to me.

Do these mods not fall under the Ashton Audio banner?

I agree. Instead of marketing yourself as an amp technician/fixer-upper, I think it would be better to create a brand that incorporates custom builds, pedals as well as repairs and modifications.

Hey Fritz,

Yes, they all fall under the 'Ashton Audio' brand, problem is that I have not had a chance to update my website to reflect all the new additional services, mods, tweaks and custom builds of both pedals and amps. I am going to be taking some time off this festive season to redo the site to accommodate all these new additions as I really want to start contributing to to advertising here with Norio and Alan int he way of banner ads early next year.

The 'matta' mod is something Aja came up with, but 'officially' they will be under the 'Ashton Audio' brand name.

Cheers
