So it seems that there's an Afrikaans version of our dear old Guitar Forum - www.kitaar.forumup.co.za
Still in its infancy, doesn't seem to be a threat just yet. Let's see where this goes...

Dit maak my somer kwaad!
It's nothing to worry about, thats life!
P.S: seems like they stole the internet script(kind of looks like this forum, just a hint.)
Gray
Isn't this script freeware thats why so many forums have a similar build?

Can someone translate this I got a D for afrikaanse :-[
Looks like an interesting article.
MiKeZilLA
my afr is kinda sucky as well but here goes....
Roughly speaking the writer is asking if anyone else has noticed that people who prefer to play afrikaans music differ greatly from those who prefer english music. The writers belief is non afr guitarists prefer solo's and lead guitar while afr guitarist prefer rhythm (except for younger players still learning)
MiKeZilLA
Hmmm.... I'm sure i could think of a couple of Afr lead guitarists....
Gray
Shot Mike I figured it was something along those lines, just thought it a little strange that someone would stereotype like that.
Anyone know if this holds true?
I dont have much experience with afk players and there preferences and I haven't really noticed eng players taking preference to lead.
MiKeZilLA
Yeah very odd... especially with the glut of really good afr rock bands coming through of late ala melktert kommissie and fokofpolisiekar perhaps the writer of said article is purposefully trying to incite a debate....
Gray
Those are my feelings too, he's a site admin and im leaning towards owner of the forum. I dont like it when people incite aggression.
Manfred-Klose
I'm an afrikaans guitar player, and i play lead and rhythm, i'm a musician not a stereotype.
The reason i think afrikaans people dont play solo's is that people like kurt darren and steve hofmeyer are stereotypes as well.
dont worry about what some guy says, go your own path!!!
Dandero
Whoa!!
This has surely gone the exact opposite route I had hoped!!
Good day my dear fellow guitar players. My name is Rudi and I am the founder of above mentioned Afrikaanse Kitaar Forum.I never tried to insult anyone with creation of said forum, and I apologize sincerely if I have (unknowingly) stepped on someones toes!
I have in my searches for a decent place to converse with other guitarists stumbled upon your site and after having lurked here for some time decided to see if I can create something of sorts focusing on the afrikaans players instead.I just never saw any topics on this specific forum that grabbed my attention.(Not implying anything)
My thought expressed in the post on my own forum was not generalized but my personal opinion and personal experiences.I have met many afrikaans speaking guitar players concentrating on playing afrikaans music like the sorts of Steve Hofmeyr,Theuns Jordaan, Dozi etc.I was my general opinion that you guys have no interest in these types of music and I did not want to litter your forum with stuff that you do not have any interest in what so ever. The english I have met thus far are not only more interested in playing solos etc but were also in general better guitar players as they overall have no interest in being only a camp fire guitar player singing along to afrikaans folk medleys and such. (Not putting down myself or fellow afrikaans players, it is just that overall people have different interests.)
I have used your forum as a template for my own forum as it is a well formed forum that is working very well.
If anyone has a problem with my above mentioned forum you are welcome to contact me.If it is also a problem using your forum as a template I would gladly discuss it with a forum moderator and have my removed if needs be.
It was never my intension to rob you guys from traffic or to upset anyone.
Regards,
sepheritoh
That guy is obviously just doing his best to get his post-count up in the forum.
I wonder if "Die gemaskerde kitaarman" count as a rhythm player? I think even Worsie Visser had a lead guitarist in his band.
Some forums has actually done away with showing post count, as some juveniles regards post count as some form of bragging value.
Anyway. It does not really matter to me. I am Afrikaans, but I do not regard myself as an Afrikaans guitarist, as I never play Afrikaans music (other than the kwela boogy which I do for fun sometimes). The history has had some good Afrikaans musicians and bands with great guitarists. Johannes Kerkorrel had a great guitarist (no idea what his name is).
I'd rather like to think of us all as "South African gitarists".

Dandero
Welcome to the forum. Let's work together as South Africans and maybe we can all participate on both forums!! ?
Wessel
I am Afrikaans aswell. And I must Admit that most of the time it feels like I am writing an English Essay when i am posting something on the forum ? that is why I could see the benefit in having an Afrikaans forum aswell. And whe should remember that English is the universal language that almost all musicians are using to communicate with each other.
En wat is lekkerder om n koos kombuis song wat almal ken om n braai tesing en speel ?

This exactly what I mean!I am not trying to put down any afrikaans speaking guitar players.I just wanted to create a place where people that prefer playing stuff like Kurt Darren etc to get together and chat.
And I think you are refering to Anton l'Amoure (Or something like that) He is nowadays gigging with Theuns Jordaan.
I do not at all disagree that there have been Brilliant Afrikaans Guitarists.Blackie Swart and Mel Botes both being GREAT guitarists themselves!
I really wanted to see if these two forums could co-exist and benefit from each other.Even after having created my own forum I would not stop coming here as I have already learned a great deal from you guys and think you give great advice.Of course I will also post the link of your forum in mine.Never wanted to go into competition.

Hello Dandeo
Welcome to our forum.
I'd like to apologise maybe my actions were a little rash and you are entitiled to your opinion but you must understand im also entitled to mine and I cant beleive that a guitarist is defined by race, creed, gender, etc... So I wanted to gather the feelings of my fellow members to attain a bettter understanding on the topic.
I think your forum is a good idea and appeals to a niche market.
I wish you all the best and hope you still take time to pop in here from time to time. ?
Spyke
Hey Rudi...
Never meant to stir by posting the link here but now that everyone is aware of both sites i think it is in fact possible to co-exist.
Keen to see what Norio has to say wrt all this... ?
MiKeZilLA
Welcome Dandero!
Some (South) Afr(ican) Blues anyone?
http://www.rhythmrecords.co.za/store/viewAlbum.asp?idAlbum=14
I really love this cd came upon it very much by accident a coupla years ago but buying it really forced me to do a double take on what i thought about afrikaans music
Dandero
Thank you for the welcome guys!
Spyke, don't sweat it mate!I realize now that I was in the wrong maybe not mentioning the idea here first.I should have asked permition to blatantly use this forum's format like I did.
Like I said before.Welcome to contact me if there are any problems.

Hi Dandero. Welcome to the forum.
As far as I'm concerned, it's a free Internet (well, unless Hellkom gets their way ?), so you are welcome to have your own forum modelled on this one as long as you don't take any copyrighted images or the content itself. As far as the layout goes, It depends on how Norio feels about it.
Dandero
Thank you Alan!
I apologize once again for not getting the go ahead from someone of authority here before going ahead with my actions.
I then anxiously await correspondence from Norio.
