What an appalling fraud vic. Despicable stuff. I hope someone emailed him to tell him as much.

On mylespaul there are always people coming to the "other les pauls" section asking about buying fakes. They get flamed to toast by the old hands. But it's amazing how many people want to step up and say it's harmless: "if I know I'm buying a fake what harm..."

But it's this right here. Someone will at some point try to flog it as a Gibson to some unsuspecting kid who's been saving for a year for it. Frankly, I don't even approve of replica makers putting the original designers logo on their hand made creations. And the more honest ones don't. Even though no one's going to be brutally disappointed by a luthier-made replica (think Slash's AFD LP) it's still inherently dishonest.

As everyone knows, I have no problem with copies and replicas. But be proud enough of them to put your own mark on it - don't try to misrepresent it as some other manufacturer's product.

The fact that he/she can be so cynically blatant about it is quite simply outrageous. Its probably also an admission of criminal intent.

....to think that this stuff is right here in our own backyards. It's really sad that one HAS to view almost every ad with suspicion...also a lot of fake Shure mics going around.

Tell me about it. The worst thing is that in many cases it's the seller that has been duped when he bought and now he doesn't know that he's selling a fake, so you can't even trust those coming from someone you know.

Warren wrote I've been lusting after Music Man for some time, any comments on the below deal? Anything in particular about Silhouette Specials I should worry about? I've seen this guitar up before at just over R8k.

Good price that Warren. And not a bad guitar to boot. Looks like the real thing.
Silhouette specials are quite the workhorses (built very well) and versatile (not as versatile as a fat strat).
I've played a few and they have a much rounder radius than i'm used to. I'd say it is close to some of the newer strats in radius.
Try it, and at that price it might be well worth grabbing.

Yeah, alas the guitar has been sold. ☹ Well, maybe it's a good thing, financially.

An old mate of ours also pointed out the JP signature, but that's just out of my price range right now ☹

Here it is for any other interested parties. - http://johannesburg.gumtree.co.za/c-Stuff-for-Sale-musical-instruments-MUSIC-MAN-JOHN-PETRUCCI-W0QQAdIdZ298159597

Although, be sure to check that out carefully as the pics posted in the ad are of two different guitars...

I like the John Petrucci Music Man

I try and keep myself off Gumtree lately, but this morning I could not resist, and found...

Boost n Buff V2 for R500 ... Now that is silly!

Epiphone Rock Bass ... R900 ...

Ernie Ball jr Volume ... R750 (Not so cheap but you don't find these second hand easily!!)

Damn wish I wasn't going Down Unda! Also saw a Parker P36 for R6500 ... So rather buy mine, it's a lot cheaper!!

Basically sounds like a guy who is a pilot who will buy you the guitar you want overseas and bring it back, thus saving on shipping/customs costs... any legal implications though?

Probably not the best quality stuff, but perhaps some interesting pieces for modding?

Absolutely! And I'm actually considering it, not that I need another guitar right now and not that I have R3.5k lying around, but how I can anyone disregard such an offer. You've gone and messed up my morning now. ?

I've never understood these LP Studios. It just seems to me that the only reason people buy them is because they can't afford a real Les Paul but they absolutely have to have a guitar that says Gibson on the headstock. Look, don't take my opinion too seriously because I'm not all that clued up but I should think that you'd be able to get a Tokai Les Paul for instance at a similar price and, while you don't have a Gibson decal on the headstock then, you do have a kick-ass guitar that competes with the real Les Pauls. Just my thoughts. I'd be curious to read what others think.
