My main problem with NYE is my mates aren't big into live music. so they don't interact with me while on stage so I don't see them otherwise, i get a birds eye view of them having a good time without me.
so I end up interacting with people I don't know or don't want to know while everyone else has a good time without me.

I think most performers set a baseline amount for which they're not willing to play below on nights like these. It should be an amount that you can't refuse - if you don't get offered that, you don't play.
But I must admit its a crappy way to spend NYE - and protecting your equipment from flying sparkling wine is a whole different issue!
I have set mine quite high this year. anything lower than R3k for me as part of a band is not really worth it
