My wife hates Sade and I really enjoy it. My mates also rag me for listening to Simply Red, but Kenji Suziki is so wonderfully simple yet effective that I enjoy it so much.

I can't think of anything that I listen to by choice that I am embarrassed about.

If it's not my choice then I am not embarrassed - though I might get a bit caustic about it.

If I did play something and found it embarrassing then I'd eject it.

I suppose the one possible exception might be listening to 60s or 70s music that is, by contemporary standards, sexist. In which case I might feel that the artist should be embarrased.

Well a friend and I in our school days discovered the blues, but every Tom, Dick and Harriet listens to that now.

I do listen to some things that nobody else in my regular social circle bothers with: Martin Carthy, The Incredible String Band, Bruce Molsky... I know people who enjoy Richard Thompson's playing and songwriting but get turned off by his vocals.

yeah i'm with Bob on this one........ everything i listen to by choice is what i love dearly and would never be embarresed to listen to it ...... even if it's obscure ..........

mmm as for inadvertantly hearing music ...yesterday i spent some time pottering around the house with channel MK on dstv ....... and ouch i heard so much off pitch singing i was cringing and yet in morbid facsination left it on a bit longer to eventually be convinced that there are are a lot of ...lets say not quite up to standard artists getting video's on channel MK......... but if i understand it right it's a local content only channel ... ( i must admit it's the 1st time i watched it for longer than the 4 seconds it takes to channel skip) but yeah i switched to an international channel and the standard improved dramatically ...... so yeah i was feeling not embarressed but maybe a bit sad that i heard so many below par video's/recordings being aired....... surely there must be some standards????? and i mean the singers were truly not even hitting the notes...... not in one video but a few......... no excuse for that .........

I think I've listened to pretty much everything listed so far at some time or another - never embarrasing, though.

I can listen to pretty much anything, depends on the mood.

I listen to music from all genres and all time frames.
If you are embarrassed about some of the music you listen to then I will call it peer pressure!
Most of my friends just don't understand the fact that this metal head listens to A-Ha, but I'm not embarrassed!

Music feeds the soul and like food you need different types to keep you healthy! I feel music is the same!

I bought the following singles when I was very young, but I was not embarrased at all.

Alan Garrity "Someone to lean on"
Hot Chocolate "Emma"
Sherbet "Howzat"
Mud "Dynamite"
I even had some Richard Jon Smith singles, "Candlelight"
Terry Jack "Seasons in the Sun"
The entire The Sweet collection, the first band that grabbed my attention, I think I was about 7 years old.
"Papa Joe", "BlockBuster" etc. Hell I enjoyed it back then. ?

Not Embaressed by it at all, but some folks might not appreciate my love of Jim Steinman songs.
You can hear his style a mile away! (Meatloaf, Bonnie Tyler, Air Supply) Great melodies, soppy lyrics and harmonies ad infinitum.
The dudes legend in my book.....

I knew it! I love the Incredible String Band. Yes they're shameless hippies, but they're also freakin' brilliant. Just saw this crap film about pirate radio where the hippy is clinging to his string band record as the ship sinks, the only thing he's saved from his collection. Another DJ yanks it out of his hands saying, "This album is rubbish." and tosses it back into the water. I was like, "You pandering A-hole!" ?

For myself, I always love hearing Shanaia Twaine come on when I'm in the supermarket. Those are really fun pop songs.

Well the ISB are interesting as regards this discussion. They were very hip in the late 60s, now almost forgotten, and a lot of the people that do remember them find them so 60s it's cringe-making. Because they are like a distillation of the flower-power, drug-soaked, paisley 60s.

I love the early stuff. They seemed to go into a slow decline and their latter albums were nowhere near, say, The 5000 Spirits.
