i know Ben. Last time a saw him (some months back) he said he was moving beck to Plet until the end of the year. He wanted to build up his drumming chops. He was really into fretless guitar and Indian Classical music at one stage. haven't spoken to him in a while though. i'll try get him to check this place out.

Yep this guy is a HOT player. He is really good at flamenco and jazz as well. He is a true prodigy really to be that good at that age. I hope success finds him.

Yup, I know exactly what you mean. I nearly gave up playing guitar the first time I watched a full G3 concert. I started thinking, "What's the point? I'll never be as good as that."

But, eventually, it hit me. It was never about being as good as them. It was about playing music that moves me and makes me feel good. So now I'm just really happy with my playing (apart from the odd bend that's off-pitch ?) and I enjoy it a whole lot more.

I think we guitarists move away from music and move towards a goal of being "the best" and then eventually come back down to earth and THAT's when the fun really begins!

Yes. I realised that too. You can never be happy if you want to be the best and even if you become INCREDIBLE, there are no criteria by which you can be measured to determine if you are the best. I mean who is the best guitarist in the world? I don't think that question has an answer.

I think we are meant to become as good as we can be and enjoy the creative and technical process.

I think this Ben Badenhorst is fantastic though.

Yeah I know of Ben, a few of my friends know him really well. Ben plays a Custom guitar made by "Brian Fanner original Customs" in Cape Town.

Other guitarists to check out imo:
Charles Knighton-Pullin (actually realised I'm not sure if thats his last name lol and he's a friend of mine) Plays for "Dogs of War" Pretty old band that disbanded but he's starting it up again. They're progressive power metal. Charles has played with Ben in previous bands.

Igor Crous and Pierre van Niekerk of Marching dead, Pierre is your lead guy but Igor rights the songs. They're both pretty damn tight never ever compromises tone. Cape Town band Currently in Durban preparing for WF.

I'm Charles.... I used to jam allot with Ben when we were forming a band together. He is turely gifted... even the shred stuff aside. he's a really good frettless guitarist and has a really good understanding of many styles of music!!!
