Hey guys,
As some of you will know, I started keeping guppies a few months ago. I then joined FishForum.co.za which was a pretty cool place to get some advice but then they closed down :/
So I started www.FishTalk.co.za ? Mainly because I'm having issues with algae and my plants aren't looking too good and new fish from the store don't tend to live long in my tank. Thing is, Americans keep talking about gallons and ppm (parts per million) while we talk about litres and mg/l and they have different products and water and so on.
If you have fish and want some help (or you can help me with my issues), please join www.FishTalk.co.za.
Lastly, if you guys feel like this is an abuse of power and I'm breaking too many rules by doing this, please let me know and I'll of course delete this topic as I'm no hypocrite!
Thanks ?
Wizard
FishTalk - sounds like a good name for a band.

Nice forum Norio! Great to be in on it early!

You think GAS is bad. I got totally hooked on fish some years ago. Started with a goldfish in a bowl for my kids and within a year, ended up with 6 fish tanks. One was 6 foot long filled with Malawian cichlids. I spent every weekend cleaning out fishtanks until I came to my senses. I had to go on a twelve step programme :-[

Thanks guys! ?
PeteM, I can relate! Fish are VERY addictive. Better than drugs, I suppose ?
I started a few months ago with 2 boys in my 70l. Some plastic plants and a silly plastic rock ornament. Now I have 3 girls, 3 boys and 7 (4-day old) babies. I've got 3 plants, do water tests almost daily, changed the gravel a bit and, if I had the bucks, I'd do much more ? Have to stop myself for fear of stressing the fish but I want more plants and change the gravel to something nicer (so that I can spot uneaten food and siphon it out!)
Tanya wants to get an aquarium in her office with a green spotted puffer fish. They incredibly cute but very aggressive so it's not likely to have friends ?
I can spend hours every day worrying about my fish and staring at them wondering if everything's just right ? Once I get the guppy story right, I want to upgrade but I'm gonna try and keep from going overboard. I doubt I'll succeed though - those huge cabinet fish tanks look so awesome! ?
Graeme, it's the same forum software as GFSA, just newer. We'll be seeing that here soon ? It's very nice but I'm not ready to put it here till it's fully released (it's currently only been released as a "release candidate").
Wizard, feel free to use the name ? Could go well with a wah-wah abusive band ?

My dream is too bio-engineer Tetra Neon's to glow in the dark and sell them as night lights.
But seriously, I like fishy's as well. I'll probably get a big tank again when I move into my new place in Feb. Probably some small saltwater fish.

Guppies and Mollies - the rabbits of the fish world ?
I have 16 Tiger barbs myself and I keep it simple. I use a filter that is rated for double the tank capacity. I also make sure not to overfeed and do a water change at least twice a month. So far, no deaths and very little algae.

Got a buddy whose a fishhead, will point him in fishtalk's direction...
ps only fish I'm interested in is Sushi and Phish... sorry!
NorioDS
Thanks guys!
1,000 litres! Dude! Photos! ? (When you get round to it, of course)
I'd love to do a marine tank in the future but, for now, this is more than enough work and expenses for me ?
inflames
@Norio, will do!
The tank is 2000mmx600mmx800mm, getting it custom build with 10mm glass.
The sump will hold 300L of water for the filtration side of things ?
But first I need to sort out my guitar gear!
NorioDS
Hehe, these hobbies of ours are expensive and addictive hey? ?

agree Norio!
I have done some research the last 11 months on marine tanks.
It is a expensive hobby, but amazing to sit back and watch the reef grow!

Nice thing about living at the coast is that you can catch your own fish for your marine tank. Can't remember exact cost of the license, but I believe it was something like R75/year and you could take out 3 of a species per day.
Don't have a marine - they take a lot more work to look after and sometimes I have to go away for a few days. The tiger barbs I have are tough - as long as there's food and the water is clean(ish) ? they're happy.
NorioDS
R75/year - that's pretty cool! Must be fun, too.
Inflames, you must see the LFS by us - awesome tank(s) with little sea anemones and all sorts of things. Really awesome! I'm so glad we found it as I was getting despondent as most shops are useless and just stock fish to sell them - no actual interest in them.

Nice norio!
In CPT we have a few stores, but all a hell of a long drive from where I stay!
Will get my water for the tank and water changes from the Waterfront Aquarium.
So staying close to the coast is incredible. Unfortunately the type of fish you can dive out in CPT is not that colorful ?

Inflames, am I to understand that you're inviting more water into your home? Is that wise? Methinks you haven't learned your lesson...
