For awhile now i have been gassing for a harp , you know like the angels play . so i have done some research and found a few plans and build instructions that imo are alot easier then building a guitar . I really think a harp would be cool to play ..... Or do i need to see my shrink .

If it's not a blues harp, you need a shrink! hahaha nah dude whatever rocks your boat, as long as I'm not in that boat with you!

No......Tailon, here is a clip of my favourite harpist, Andreas Vollenwieder. I have 3 of his CDs.....this is really calming, inspirational and soothing stuff.

Ah that is awesome!! Would be more awesome if the distance affected the pitch tho, but cool nonetheless.

Try it, why not. But...unless you have orchestral backing, you might find it difficult to play something that will keep you interested for very long. And even more so than drums, it is waaay more difficult than it looks. Solo harp looks like phd level stuff...

Yea. Harp is supposedly up there amongst violins on the difficulty scale..

I have occasionally enjoyed the playing of Savourna Stevenson.
Here's a clip of her playing with Shetland fiddler Aly Bain and the fabulous Danny Thompson.
This is a bit spoiled because the clip has been forced into a wide screen mode, but you can still hear the playing.
And see an interesting thing. There are levers at the top of each string, that can flatten or sharpen the string. Harps can be constructed to be played in a limited number of keys or, like this one, have the little levers to allow key/mode to be changed (or introduce incidental notes). So here she's doing this on the fly. It looks to me like this takes a bit of co-ordination.
Lovely playing from all three, with Danny Thompson, as he so often does, creating a sense of motion.

Another Scottish harpist (in fact the gaelic word is "clasarch"). This is Catriona McKay playing with Aly Bain, dobro-meister Jerry Douglas, Russ Barenberg on guitar and Donald Shaw on harmonium.

Old joke: Harpists spend half their time tuning their harps; and the other half playing out of tune ...
