If I'm repeating an old topic, just set me straight! :-[
I'm looking at some second hand squiers, specifically teles but also strats, and I wanted to know what you recommend I look out for - how can I tell the difference between one that I can fix up easy and a dead lemon. Frets are easy to feel, but what should I look for on the neck or the body?

If you are going for Squiers, don't go for the bullet - they're thinner bodies that're often plywood. Check out my thread about my new amp. That's using a Squier affinity - the neck's a little thin for my comfort but to me it's got some pretty serious tone.
Also be VERY wary of fret wear ?

what's the big downside of fret wear?
MikeM
It'd need a fret level / recrown which is pricey. It causes buzzes and fretting out. A real pain..

Fret wear should be OK, I don't think it's that old. Neck alignment issues? Warped neck? How do you check on that?
