Goedkoop is duurkoop!

Don't rush out and buy any FX pedal. Think about the sound you want to achieve and that you will need some kind of pedal for. Think long and hard about this. The next step is to ask "what kind of pedal is that?". Now you have refined your search to knowing that you want a certain type of pedal (flange, overdrive, chorus, whatever) that will help you get a certain sound. Then go shopping for pedals of that type.

I'd advise saving up rather than buying the cheapest - UNLESS the cheapest does what you want. But if it DOESN'T then you will get annoyed quickly and start looking for something that will cost more and so you will have wasted the money you spent on the cheap pedal.

Don't rule out buying good 2nd hand stuff. You can get more bang per buck that way.

Sounds like all you need is a distortion pedal of some type. Stop into Bothner's or Marshall's and try a few in your price range. There are always a few on Gumtree and in Capeads too. It helps the salesmen if you know what kind of sound you want to get, so be prepared to answer a few question on bands and players you like.

You can easily get a second hand Boss DS-1 or DS-2 at that price. Check the classified section of these forums, there are a few floating around.

Also check out the Danelectro range of pedals. They are also not too expensive, and have a pretty decent range these days.
