My 66 Vibrolux Reverb started breaking up with the volume on 4...beautiful tones, but the volume had to be above 4 to really hear them.

Ooh. Suddenly remembered my other fave - which is an LP through a Marshall. It's the Clapton tone on the Bluesbreakers record. That's a JTM45 Combo, right?

That would be my dream amp if you didn't have take it into a nuclear bunker to play it loud enough to get that tone. A low-watt amp that could do that would get my money. But probably I'll just end up having to use digital emulation. The damn thing's just too loud.

You get a 18W build like that. If I am not mistaken marshall also released a 18W hand wired version.

I think Ceriatone has an 18W kit and a version with an EF86 frontend.

Are there any threads on ordering Ceriatone Amps? As a person who's a bit clueless about amps, I find their site a bit confusing. Like, I don't know exactly what their prices are for. Does the pre-assembled amp come with tubes/transformers, etc.?

I'd be happy to get the amp and then get a cabinet and speaker here.

An 18w Marshall sounds the perfect solution for SA club gigs. Built in tremolo too. If only it had a spring reverb tank. I wonder if you're building it from a ceriatone kit how easy it would be to put a long-spring reverb tank into the loop?

No. I know a few guys in the US that have bought them. I gather they work out cheap (even with shipping from Singapore), but don't have anywhere near the same component quality as the Mojo or some of the other kits. Their site would be confusing if you don't know what an AA763,etc. is. They usually have options with and without tubes.

Speaking Mojo, they probably have an 18Watter kit too.

The Bandmaster came out the same time as the Bassman, but was designed for guitar, the Bassman was for bassists... though nobody really liked it in this role. The bigger brother of the Bandmaster/Bassman was/is the Showman.

The Bandmaster, at least my Blackface era one has the AB763 circuit, the same as the Deluxe & Twin Reverb and in lieu of the 'BASS' channel it has a 'VIBRATO' channel, like the other classic Blackface's.

That said the output transformer IS physically smaller being a 40W amp vs the 50W Bassman.

I love it dearly... I owned an AB165 Bassman but sold it and kept the Bandmaster as I needed the cash to buy my '65 AC30... keeping my eye out for a Deluxe Reverb, though may end up building myself a Tweed Deluxe one of these days... I got GAS it seems...

Set on "5", the Bandmaster distorts a lot more than my AB165 Bassman set to "5" on the vol knob.
If a Bandmaster only starts to saturate at "4", then it gets real nasty real fast, because this Band Master is only on "5". (see below)

Incredible tones.
I just don't like the fact that the level of distortion comes with volume, personally I prefer a Master Volume.

THAT is how all the amps used to be (...like we all know), and i too prefer a master volume amp, but for me, there is some mojo about a non master volume amp, like my Bassman, the Marshall JTM45, Marshall 2061X, and that new Class 5 combo.

Saying that, my fav amp i the whole wide world, comes w a Master Volume (at 100W it should), but you can also order it, withOUT - strange that !

Well 'nasty' is not the adjective I'd use... but yes, it saturates around there, as do most blackface AB763 circuits like the Deluxe Reverb (22W). The Bandmaster is a bit of sleeper in the Blackface lineage, best bang for buck in my opinion. It sells for around the same price as a Blackface Bassman (AB165), but better sounding for guitar and I love the Vib channel. It is not as well known as the Deluxe, has more headroom at double the wattage (40W), but less than a Twin so the perfect 'inbetweener'.

You are not alone, I'm thinking about building one as my 'gigging' amp, the Bandmaster and AC30 are just not that portable...

I think you may be right. Maybe it's fate that that Bacchus looks almost exactly like my Les Paul ?. I even have the amber knobs on it and the scratch-plate off ?

The one thing though, compared to the honkin JTM45 combo, is you do miss the sound of speakers pushing air, don't you? I wonder. Would it be possible for either this little guy, or the 18 watter, to drive two 10" loudspeakers? That might make for an awesome little combo.

It will deff drive two 10inhcers, as i have heard the little ZVex amp driving a full 4X12 cab, and it sounded good.
So this 5watter will deff sound better at pushing air, than that 1/4watt Nano Amp from ZVex.

Just remember, " pushing air = louder ".
The more speakers you add, the louder it will get, especially if you add more efficient drivers.

Love that P90 equiped LP-shaped guitar . . . do yuo have a simmilar one ? ...if so, pix asap ?

Mine's an old Gibson LP Deluxe. Lollar P90s instead of the crappy mini-humbuckers. Black Les Pauls look great in my biased opinion.

Bacchus make excellent Les Pauls by all account.
