If the LP into a Marshall works for you, then fine and good and problem solved. But maybe you want something that a "classic" combination can't give you.
I think this is more of a "let's us like-minded people get together and gush" thread Bob, rather than a call to abandon all other options ?
A good Les Paul is my very favourite of all kinds of guitars - acoustic or electric. The solid bulk of maple on mahogany, short-scale length, and creamy humbucker create something that's sharper and better defined than an SG or ES-335, less acoustic sounding than a strat... to my ears a thing of beauty.
But I have slight reservations about Marshalls. They can sound really great, but I also find them just a little less subtle than say, a cranked tweed bassman. I think a Les Paul played into a Fender tube combo is the business.
